Wierd SMS problem

Anyone else had anything like this? I can't get me head around it.

I have one particular contact who I can't send texts to. They always bounce straight back as undeliverable.

I have his number entered correctly, as his name always appears with his texts.

I can recieve his messages fine. I can recieve calls from him. I can make calls to him.

I can send messages to everyone else without any problems whatsoever.

Any ideas what the problem (or solution) might be?

i have this to but i dont no why i can send them like 99% of the time then the odd time i says cant be deliverd so i have to restart my phone for it to send me messege

No it's not the same problem as that. It's not that I sometimes can't send messages then after a re-start it works.
I can send messages to all my other contacts 100% of the time - they never fail.
This one contact however, I've only successfully managed to get one message through to in the 2 months I've had my Desire - every other message I've tried to send to him has failed.

I've tried replying - doesn't work.
I've tried deleting the entire thread of messages from this contact and starting afresh - doesn't work.
Deleted the contact and re-entered the number, several times - doesn't work.

I have this exact same problem and its a bit of a nightmare since its my brother. It happened after my htc sense crashed and i had to hard reset.

Done all of the above and still got no where.

Any help would be good

Have you tried adding an the country code (eg+66 - Thailand) at the start of the phone number?

I think I had something similar quite some time ago, and I ended up deleting every piece of information for the contact and started all over again. Now I just add the country code automatically - saves me headaches when I travel, and (surprisingly) solved SMS problems that I faced years ago as well. (Different phones, but same problem.)

I had something similar recently. It turned out that the default number (the one that says "primary") was the synced one from Facebook, i.e. no + at the start, just 44xxxxxxxxxx. It was the only contact I had that did that, no idea why! Anyway, the trick is to edit the contact and set the real number (the one beginning with 0) to their "home" number (or something other than mobile) so you can set it as the primary number, then change it back from "home" to "mobile". Then hopefully the number beginning with 0 should be the primary number and you'll be able to send messages to it.

Well OK just to deepen the mystery still further, I've looked through my contacts and I have a mixture of numbers beginning with 07 and +44 - as all these contacts I can send messages to whichever they begin with - I'd say this isn't the answer.

I also tried re-entering his number both ways, and with this number only it won't work whether it's entered as 07... or +44...

There is something about his number my Desire doesn't like - I could send to him with my old Sony Ericsson, but can't with my Desire.

Just had a thought; this shouldn't matter, but as far as I can think of right now, he might the only Vodafone user I've tried to send messages to. I wonder if there is some kind of strange issue there?

I used to be on O2 - but went to Orange when I got my Desire. Does anyone else have any trouble texting from Orange to Vodafone?

I get this and have had it since day one. It's not the same failure rate as yours, but still annoying. Just happens to be my partner too. :( Not linked to Facebook. I recently tried different SMS apps, but that didn't help, in fact one of them, think it was Handcent, was always failing. I'm now on Go SMS and it's either a fluke or has helped, but it's not failing nearly half as much.
