Help Wife reports a fullscreen ad appeared on her Moto X to download a McDonald's app??

It apparently happened while she was at work so I don't know much more than that. She said she turned her screen on and there was a fullscreen red and yellow golden arches and it said something about downloading the app....

No ideas here.....there really aren't many apps installed. Any way to tell what app could be responsible? Pop ups are turned off in Chrome.

The information is pretty sketchy.

You could try running in Safe Mode (disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them). If it stops then it was caused by an app that you added.

What's the name of the Moto Software that allows Motorola to send Motorola news, tips and announcements? Could that, or a Google Now setting allow ads to come through? I would carefully go through every setting for both those apps just to make sure.

Unlikely it was a Google or Moto app. That would be really out of character for them.

But almost any app can install something that would open itself almost* any time it wanted.

Is the phone on Verizon? I could see their software possibly doing stuff like this.

Otherwise if it is an app downloaded from the Play store, then it cannot do anything until it is run at least once. But yeah safe mode or a list of app installed since the phone was bought would help.

* (No apps can interrupt phone calls, for example)
