Help wifi - am I connected or not?

Can't find the answer here.
Settings>Wireless and Networks>Wifi Settings shows "Connected."
The Status bar Wifi icon shows very good to excellent signal.
But I can't connect to the net. Opening Market results in "Retry/Cancel" and weather results in "Dismiss" - I think. Regardless, no app can reach the net.
BUT . . . not always. Every once in a while I get access and can surf. But then, back to no connection.
Nothing seems to change. Signal remains very good to excellent. Icon shows signal but I can't connect.
Ideas/suggestions please on how to get a permanent connection.

Have you restarted your phone? (pull battery, replace, hit the power button)

Just because you are connected to a WiFi "hotspot" doesn't mean the Hotspot is working properly. Try another wireless connection point.

Is this on one particular wifi access point, or on any that you connect to?
