Help WiFi and Bluetooth at the same time?

Hi all,

I'm new to the forums and my Samsung Galaxy Victory.
Long time user of Unix, OSX, Linux, and (unfortunately) Windows.

I've recently abandoned iOS because it's too expensive and the KEEP on routinely discontinuing support for hardware that is still quite usable (the latest and last straw was my iPod touch 4.0).

First, I love this device, and price/features blows Apple away.
I have been using it for about 3 months now and I just got a BOSE Soundlink Mini speaker system for my birthday. I have been connecting it by Bluetooth and it works great.

- I have noticed that while connected and playing music, i CAN'T seem to connect to anything by WiFi.
- Also, if I'm already connected and actively using WiFi, I can't get the Bluetooth to connect (eg YouTube and the SoundLink).
- If one is on and the other is refusing to connect, turning off the active one will almost always, and almost immediately allow the other to work as expected.

I can't seem to find much specific details on this model, but I have read other models share the same hardware for the Bluetooh and WiFi antennas, but the standard docs don't seem to say that you can't do both at the same time.
.
Doubt it would make a difference, but it was bought through Virgin Mobile, and I have not (and probably won't) activate the phone portion (using it as a iPod touch substitute). I have a company phone and 4G hotspot already and I basically use it to check personal email and play music.

Any info would be appreciated, but I'm thinking I will have to use the headphone/Aux input for the speakers to use WiFi at the same time.

Thanks in advance for any info!

Hi and welcome to the forums! :)

Its normal, if not essential, for wifi and bluetooth to work at the same time. Many people stream music from Google, spotify etc and send it to bluetooth speakers - normally with no problem. All 4 android phones in our house do this.

Unless its a strange setting (I can't think of one to do this) I suspect your phone is faulty - you should get back to Virgin mobile with the problem

Just to confirm, I just did a quick test on my stock VM Victory and had no problems. I BT'd to my speakers and connected to a mifi device and launched TuneIn Radio.
No odd settings on the Victory that I can think of.

My vm victory does the same thing, as well as my wife's victory. Her vm awe (zte) does it also, as does my LG Optimus f3. My HTC evo 3d didn't have this problem. It's very irritating. I read somewhere that some WiFi modems use the same freq as Bluetooth, & this is what causes the problem. The suggestion was to check if modem freq can be changed. My fix is to not use Bluetooth while on WiFi. I just plug in Bluetooth spkr to phone thru headphone jack.
Btw, my wife & Bluetooth will connect, but then disconnects/connects/disconnects over & over.

I've read the same, too:
Is your router dual band (i.e., 2.4/5 GHz)? If so, try using the 5 GHz band, since Bluetooth shares the 2.4 GHz band.
