Help Wifi connection problem with with hidden SSID

When I broadcast the SSID, my Note 2 picks it up and has great signal. When I hide the SSID, it says "not in range". My Nexus 10 works fine this way. Any ideas?
My Router is an Asus RT-N66u
 
I've had the same issue with desktop/notebook PC's. I can find the signal with SSID broadcast, but if I turn it off, I can't see the signal.

I'll be curious as to the posts to this thread!
