Root Wifi - Error

Wi-Fi does not want to cooperate and only reals WiFi:Error when attempting to connect. I have read that it could be caused by a funky kernel. Yet I have not found any threads with a conclusive answer. The problem seems vague with little to no debugging information.

In my original post, I was freaking out a little. This is my first time rooting, and getting real comfy with the workings of Android OS. It does feel good to be a super user ^^. However, unrEVOked makes it pretty harmless.

I am going to factory reset follow by a reroot. I also want to be 100% convinced it's not a hardware issue. This reset will give me a time to test. This is a replacement for my first Incredible - which I loved dearly - and the second happens to be a refurb.

I'd try flashing another kernel first.

If that doesn't work then follow the steps in the sticky "how to downgrade to official 2.2" to unroot.

I am still using the stock HTC Sense Kernel - 2.6.32.17

Is it really possible that it's causing the problem? I understand ROMs, I need to do more research on kernels...

I do not even get to the stage of connecting (or setting up for that matter) to a Wi-Fi Network. Instead if I even try to enable Wi-Fi through the HTC Widget, under Wireless & networks, or under Wi-Fi setttings. Wi-Fi does not turn on.

About to unroot and factory reset.

Update: Even after returning to stock 2.2 and a Factory Reset, the error remains. I am now worried that it might be a hardware issue :(

Update x2:I tried a custom kernel hoping that might help. i used incredikernal 2.6.32 with the Stock Sense ROM. Still same error. I really think this might be a hardware issue now.

I don't know how I can test for this. I should contact the seller.

The only other idea I have is to reroot and try a custom kernel, rather than the default.

The only time I had that error was when I tried to update my bcm4329.ko file. I tried copying over a friend's file due to another wi-fi problem I was having. Unfortunately, I believe the file is unique to each phone, so I just changed it back (from a nandroid backup) and all was working well again. Hope this helps a little.

How did you resolve it if you don't mind me asking? I heard there were no more Incredibles other than refurbs. Did you just have your replaced?
