Help WiFi goes after a while since software update.

Hi,

Ever since my HTC Desire HD had its latest update the WiFi works for a while and then goes and I don't know why, and after this happens I have to go back into Wireless and Networks and search and re-connect again.

Can anybody tell me if they are having the same issue of if there is something I am doing wrong.

Many thanks.

I tried it and after a while the WiFi went again so does any one have an other ideas.
It only seemed to happen after the last update was made over the weekend.

But thanks again.

What router do you use?
Is it by any chance echolife?
Have you tried changing a channel?
Try wifi analyzer from anroid market to get least crowded channel.

It's more my work Wifi and others than my one at home, it also looks like there is someone else here with the same issue so i may of sorted the issue.

I ask around and thank you for all your help.

There was an issue with the wifi in the 2.3 update apparently. It switches off if the signal drops too low and it's set at a ridiculously high level.

Yup it is a problem... when your wifi signal falls below -88 RSSI then it will cut off.

You can check your wifi signal using the following code in the phone dialer:

*#*#4636*#*#

Someone over at xda has made changes to it to have the minimum at -108, but you need to root the device. More info, go here:

[FIX] Wifi dropping on Gingerbread Sense ROMs - xda-developers

This is one issue I hope HTC fixes for the UK release...

Edit: Looks like they have to fixed it at kernal level, they did fixed it at framework.jar, must still not be working on original radio...

Very interesting, just tried wifi analyzer and found out i was on the worst channel possible. My phone was also dropping wifi all the time and I had to go into wifi settings and re-scan for it so will see if switching to the best channel will help. On a side note I haven't got gingerbread yet.

Oh good i'm glad it's not just me then and i am still having the same issue at home as well as everywhere else.

If anyone find out any more information then please let me know.

Many thanks to all.

I'm also losing Wifi when the signal is a bit poor, so when at home for now I just turn off mobile data.

Like the rest of you, todays official OTA update Gingerbread 2.3.3 (2.36.405.8) has introduced this for me. yesterday could get WiFi all round the house, since the update, its constantly dropping it. I'm always getting the "Unable to connect to WiFi network" icon in notifications. (Even tried "Best Wi-Fi Performance" option.....

The update also corrupted my SD card which required a format to recover.

:-(

Anyone got a fix for 2.3.3 which doesn't require a root?
Wifi is dropping quite often from places where it used to be fine.

Unfortunately not. No fix for unroot. It could be with the gingerbread rather than HTC customisation that has screwed it up. The only topic I have found on this for DHD is the link I posted above.

Note sure how to quantify this, but it seems to have improved. I no longer constantly get the Dead Wifi notification. It like it was before update.

?

Hi,

I have been put off going to gbread due to all the WiFi problems being reported. But I noticed that in advanced wireless settings it mentions option for WiFi to sleep after 15 mins. Could it be that after the upgrade this is being used as the default setting?

Hope to feel its safe to upgrade soon will keep monitoring!
