Help WIFI Help with Galaxy Note 8 PLEASE!!!!

Hello, I just bought a Galaxy 8.0 tablet, and I am about to return it. Here is the issue. The wifi connects to the hot spots but not at my house . I have time warner cable with an ARRIS router. All my other devices connect to wifi but not the Galaxy. I called samsung support and they had me change the settings on the router to channel 6 or 11 (which I did) also change the security to WPA2-PSK from WPA/WPA2-PSK and the encryption to TKIP/AES. The galaxy MAC address shows in the "Wireless client list " because it actually connects to the router. However when I try to load a page the progress bar goes about 1/3 of the way and then it stops, then I get an error message that says "page not available, check address or try later".

I need to know if anyone else is having an issue with this .. or if they have a fix..

thanks .

SSith, I tried that as well. I just cant believe it wont connect to my router. I dont like apple that much anymore , I really hope there is an update to fix this issue.

the note 8 got one update so far, and from what i gather, it changed a whole slew of things. the only other thing i can say is that you might have an older router that the note 8 isn't compatible with. a lot of people had that issue when updating from ICS to JB.

I did the update while hooked up at the BEST BUY store and did in fact hoped it was going to solve the issue.

I appreciate the insight, I didn't think about that, it could be the culprit so I'll see if time warner wants to play and help me out.

Again thanks.

Hi,

I hace a brand new Arris cable modem from another local provider and I have the exact same issue.

Tok me a while last night to figure it out as I aalso have a modem from the telco and that Works like a charm!

Tenis is frustrating but now at least I know someone else has the issue.

I will keep digging around to find a solution, and post if I find any.

Update...

After Ssith brought up the point of the router not being compatible. I wet to my Internet provider and swapped it out from an ARRIS to a Motorola.. I didn't have to reconfigure a thing.. Plugged it, named it, secured it and problem fixed...

Guess it was the router..... Thanks for all the help....

Yes, I'm finding that I eventually will have to update the hardware on my home wireless network as the technology evolves and gets better.

Planned obsolescence at its best....:-(

Glad to see this was resolved. There were two (2) things that I looked out for when I initially bought the open box Note 8 and eventually exchanged (and paid price difference) for my new Note 8.

1) Light leak
2) Wi-fi connection issues

Of course, I had explained in the other thread that the Open box Note 8 that I initially bought had bad light leakage, as well as dead pixels (basically, looked like a fingerprint, but it was the screen).

New one seems to have very slight light leakage, but nothing distracting like the open box. Wi-fi has been perfectly fine. In fact, it seems like the radios are much stronger than my Note 2. I get 2 bars in my room (weakest signal of all the rooms) and my Note 2 only gets 1. Go figure.

[From my CNET post] After reading many web articles and trying many of the potential solutions I finally found one that made a real difference. I have a Note 8 inch and a Dlink DIR-615 router. A post on the xda-developers site suggested changing the routers channel bandwidth setting from 20/40 mhz to 20 mhz. This has made a huge improvement in my Galaxy Note 8 Wifi performance. I still notice a few connection drops but they are no longer disruptive.
