A friend bought a new Galaxy Tab 7 3, everything works at his house. On a road trip, he tried to use GPS and Google maps. Of course Google will only use a certain amount of maps before you run off the world.

His son used his iphone as a hot spot and the tablet would not pick it up. Then I turned on my Galaxy Nexus hot spot and it picked right away and connected, but would not connect to the internet even though we had a strong 4g connection. My google nexus 7 (2013) works just fine.

Any ideas?

This doesn't directly answer your question, but I really like using the Skobbler app offline. I think it's one buck from the market and it'll let you download a whole country free.
