Hi guys,

I am having trouble using the wifi tether function on my phone. I can connect to my desire hd with my laptop but it cannot access the internet. Am I not missing a setting?

My carrier is TPG

many thanks,
Tim

Is your phone rooted? I'm not 100% sure, but I think that WIFI tethering is only possible if you root your phone...

Hi!

I had the same problem when i first got my DHD, some carriers block wifi tethering it as it uses up alot of data.
I got round this on Orange UK by googling some new internet settings from other people who had the same issue, and now it works fine.

Its really annoying that they do it as one of the selling points of this phone was the wifi tethering and orange block it, and didnt tell me this before i upgraded!

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Tim
I am having the same problem, also on TPG. However it is not a network problem as my wife's HTC Desire phone on the same network has a fully functioning Wifi Hotspot.
Looking for differences between the two phones in settings etc, it seems to me that the problem is with the fact that I updated my OS to Gingerbread, whereas her's is still on Froyo.
That's fine, but I can't find a fix anywhere on the net and discussion seems to be saying that many people who upgraded to Gingerbread are having this problem. :(
Cheers,
Patrick

i was having the same problem, it turned out to be the setting on my computer. If ur using windows you need to get to - Wireless Network Connection Properties, then highlight IPV6/4, Click properties, then make sure 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and Obtain DNS server address automatically' are marked.

BUT BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES PLEASE WRITE DOWN THE DETAILS ON THOSE PAGES ICASE IT DOESNT WORK.
