One of the benefits of rooting is free wifi hotspot usage...question is this: can sprint tell if your data usage is through the phone or via the hotspot?

Nope. If they could LOTS of people would most likely have their plans cancelled. They can tell if there is high usage, but there's really nothing they can do about that since you're on unlimited.

Thank you. I was told elsewhere that unlimited for phones is really only about 5gb/mo and anything over that would raise a red flag.

Once rooted how do you activate hot spot , when I do i recieve an error #67 Registration failure user name password blah blah any suggestions?

sprint's hotspot feature costs extra per month. if you're rooted, you can use wireless tether (it's a program) for free
