Hi all

I've just discovered WiFi hotspot which is great as my home broadband is temporarily down. However I was wondering does anyone know if this would eat data? I'm on an unlimited plan (with a Pay as You Go deal of

How much data it uses depends on how you use it. Streaming music or watching video's is the killer.

Yeah, it essentially you're using the phone as a wireless router, but rather than sharing a wireless connection, you're using the handsets 3G.

I take it this is one of those limited "unlimited" deals?

I'm using it for emails and FB mainly .. some uploading of paperwork.

So far El P it's been pretty good dealwise - for

That's not too bad actually. Do they charge a lot if you go over?

I've 500MB included in mine and I've only ever come close to the limit twice and both times it was because the WiFi at work was down for the month. I reckon I'm between 200-250 a month.

I must be a really heavy user then, since I got the DHD I've never been under 750MB a month. Then again, I don't tend to have the laptop switched on unless I actually need to do some work, so I use the phone for everything. I've really noticed my data going up now I'm tethering to my HP Touchpad, even on things like facebook which I used my phone for anyway. I'm over 1GB already and it doesn't reset until the 17th of the month.

When I took the contract I was told I'd just be throttled if I went over the 750 MB fair usage, but then I found out after going over that I was charged an extra

download 3G watch dog and monitor your data use. Here in Cambodia, the services are mostly prepaid. I pay $5USD for 1GB of 3G internet. I hardly go over and I use wifi hotspot a lot for checking email and web browsing. Streaming Videos takes a lot of data.

I've just tried to find the cost of the "standard rates" that will apply when I go over my fair usage allocation and I just seem to be sent around the website in loops! If the information is there it is buried fairly deep; I feel a letter coming on :)
