I have a rooted GS2, how can I use it as a hotspot without going through At&t? Is this possible?

For the record, I spent several frustrating hours trying to get the Android wifi tether app to work for more than a few minutes without quitting. I finally found the Barnacle app and it worked the first time for me.

I tried to download barnacle app but the market says " This item is not available on your carrier."
