WiFi indicator always too low

Can people give feedback as to the approximate accuracy of their WiFi indicator? In the same room with my router, my SGS2 usually indicates "good" (two arcs), and often "fair" (one arc), where the signal is strong enough to fry an egg, which my other computers indicate. At other WiFi hotspots, even thought the signal is perfectly usable, my phone often indicates "poor." So I'm wondering if the indicator's off, or if my phone has issues requiring warranty service.

Heard they got a Wifi problem with the phone and version 2.3.4 (yet to release officially) is said to improve it (heard a little bit better)

My scenerio
0-3 feet from my router (or whatever you call it) = 3/Maximum Bar
3-5 feet = 2-3/Maximum Bar
5-20 feet = 1-2 Bar (eg I went to next room), I can still connect to the net (sometimes will drop to 0 bar and fluctuate up)
Above 20 = Not bother to check

I don't have any problem with wireless G but wireless N always drop or no signal. G most of the time 2 or 3 bar in house (double story).

Nexus S had a similar issue, although I think the wifi chip was actually pretty weak in terms of distance from source.

LOL.. Very true. Seems like one can still connect while they are in the same room but once one leaves the room it's more like forget it.

FWIW, my WiFi signal meter on 2.3 seemed inaccurate in as much as that I was still getting a perfectly usable signal 35m from my cheapo Belkin router even though the meter showed nothing.

Am on 2.3.4 and the meter seems a bit more realistic but I'm still finding no signal showing whilst I'm still using it... if that makes sense.

Some people have posted that using a static IP at home helps but I have not tied that.
