Help WIFI Issue is back

Ok so I bought a GS4 back in August of 2013 and my wife bought hers back in April 2014.

I had WIFI issues trying to connect to an old Linksys router and could not figure out through all of the router settings and the settings on the phone why I could not connect to my wifi. It would connect then it would drop, connect again then drop again. it would do this for a good two minutes then finally pick up the signal and hold it. Then while it was connected to the wifi if I was in a group text I could not receive or send texts in the group text. But, I could send and receive single text messages. Turned wifi off and all of the sudden I could send and receive group texts. Also could not send a picture over text as long as I was on wifi.

I finally broke down and reset the phone back to factory and it worked just fine for several months. This is even after I bought the new Asus router. No problems at all.

My wife gets the GS4 and we are both happy. Then out of the blue my phone goes right back into the wifi issue. Cannot send or receive group texts while on wifi. Shortly after my wife has the same problem. Now my phone will not even connect to wifi even after i forget the network. I try connecting to my wireless at work which they just installed new Cisco AP's right above my desk and nothing. It see's the network but tries to obtain IP address.

This issue is starting to tick me off as I paid a ton of money for both phones to not have the wifi work.

I searched all over the forums for answers and everyone keeps talking about the router. Well, this is not a router issue. This is a phone issue. Does anyone know of a hidden setting somewhere? Why does the phone keep scanning networks?

I hate to have to reset my phone every single time. It does not seem like an app issue as both my wife and I have different apps. And neither of us installed new apps around the time this happened again.

I'm not sure what you're driving at. These phones cant send MMS over Wi-Fi. Sometimes you can get lucky and send a message if you re-boot the phone. If your problem is Wi-Fi connection has it occurred after a firmware upgrade? There's a post lower down this page of a planned update to iron out Bluetooth and Wi-Fi bugs as a result of the Kitkat upgrade. That may be a possibility although I don't have that issue with my GS4

That is the strange part. If i was on wifi the phone would know to switch to 4G to send the message. I could see the 4G icon pop up for the send and then disappear. But now it is like the phone tries to send over wifi only. It used to work, then it broke, then I reset the phone and it worked again for several months and now it is broken again. Also on my wife's GS4.

I hate resetting my phone each time as that seems to work. If I reboot the phone the problem persists. If I delete the wifi connection and re-establish it. The problem persists.

The problem also persisted before the kitkat upgrade and it still exists. I am thinking I might just reset the phone again as now after kitkat my screen will just randomly turn on and stay on.

Bluetooth is fine with my GS4 and my wife's. I am trying to see if anyone else is having this particular issue with their wifi.

just wanted to give an update. I run Kaspersky for Android on both my wifes phone and mine. Uninstalled Kaspersky and it works. Must have been some update from Kaspersky that broke the phone again.

Oh well.

I was going to ask if you were running Kaspersky. I used too and had similar issues. Since Google now has the device manager feature, I don't feel as though I need Kaspersky any more. Now, the solution for the Kaspersky issue, if you are interested is to edit your WiFi connection and change the setting under IP Settings from static to DHCP. For some reason Kaspersky changes this. It worked after I changed it. I could send MMS with WiFi on and my connection issues with my router went away.

I hope this helps.
