WiFi issues disconnects etc (fixed for me)

had this problem all week on gallaxy s3 losing wifi signal every 2 seconds after speaking with samsung and my carrier the problem was solved and hasnt dropped since i list what i did

1 goto home screen
2 select phone icon
3 type *#0011#
4 from the menu select wifi
5 turn power save off
6 press return to back to home screen
7 select menu
8 settings
9 select wifi then forget this network
10 pull power cord from router for 25 seconds
11 reconnect router
12 goto wifi settings on phone and select your router
13 put router pasphrase in
and will have a stable connection

I have the latest verizon update and the problem persists.
I've simply decided to leave my wifi on during sleep, this fixed the intermittent issue. No real drop in battery power either.
If battery is a real issue, get the mugen power 4600mah battery!

Hi guys.
I had to sign up after discovering this topic by googling,
and I have the same issue.
Obviously it's not any country/operator specific problem only in North America,
I'm from Europe, Finland ..
I just bought Galaxy S3, 3 days ago.. and eversince I've had this same problem
when I run my galaxy as an wifi hotspot for my laptop..
It disconnects every now and then, very irritating.
None of the tricks described earlier works for me.
I'm starting to think it's Android OS problem, not Galaxy..
Got android 4.0.4 on the mobile, which it updated the other day.

Tmo S3, turned the wifi powersaving off and it also will not turn off my display automatically with time out settings. Restarted the phone and it appears the power saving has been turned off and the display dims after the set amount of time.

Strange, I have booted my phone atleast 4 times since I turned off 'Power save' and I haven''t had a single issue with wifi.

I've always lost this setting after any reboot. I've been plagued by this lost WiFi connection problem only over the last few weeks.

I've just now rebooted after confirming the ServiceMode setting was fixed to Off and confirmed similar setting from within the Advanced Wi-Fi menu (set to "Always").

After the reboot, the Advanced Wi-Fi menu reports "Always" but the ServiceMode has reverted to ON.

So there is a conflict between the reports and I have to say that the Advanced Wi-Fi menu is incorrect and the setting is indeed not permanent as desired.

Sorry about this, I should have corrected it a long time ago. I loose my setting after reboot also. I am not why it didn't happen in the beginning.

Anyway as stated in a later post in this thread - my isssues dissapered with one of the later patches. I don't mess woth this setting anymore...

I think im having the same problem on my samsung galaxy note 10.1 wifi tablet. The problem is since its only a wifi tablet theres no way to access a phone keypad to enter the code to get to that menu. Any suggestions

I dialed *#0011# pressed menu button (first picture) then selected WIFI and got to the next screen (second picture). I pressed the button so it says "Off". Hit back until I was back in the homescreen. WIFI has worked to my satisfaction ever since.

I am on the initial firmware 'xxxxxLE8

Just change the encryption of the wireless security`s router to automatic (TKIP + AES) in WPA2-PSK version and it will connect with no error.

I don't even have encryption at all!.... only mac address filtering.....

If I leave mine set to Advanced Wi-Fi menu reports "Always", I have no problems.. don't really notice any hit on battery either.

However I do tell mine not to alert me everytime there is a wifi signal around.

I have had the phone 16 days now. First week was okay but this last week my WiFi has just been loosing connection like mad. All the time I had to toggle it to get it going after sleep. And even then it would loose connection multiple time pr minute.

I found this post on XDA: xda-developers - View Single Post - SG3 Know Faults Thread

Basically what user 'Muskstick' suggests is going into service mode (*#0011#), hit menu button, select wifi and disable the power save mode.

It's been working normally ever since :-)

You have to do this after every reboot as well. It defaults back to on after a reboot.

Hi,

I have a 2 weeks old S3, international edition.

After a week it stops transferring data on the WiFi network, the only way that worked was reboot to factory settings.
Now it happens again, WiFi claims "connected" but no data flow.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Jacob

Have you ever tried to connect to a wifi access point which is now out of range? I did that a few weeks ago and found that the unavailable point was at the top of the list and it was ignoring my home modem.

Thank you very much for your post. I google'd the same issue and came across your fix. I went into the service mode and disabled the "WIFI Power Save Mode". Thanks go out to 'Muskstick' as well for the original post! :D

Do you still have to do it every time you reboot?
I haven't tried it since I've gone from android version 4.04 to 4.11.

Im confused... i dialed the *#0011# what do you do after that.. i tried the menu and calling but i dont see the menu screen that you guys says come up.. what am i doing wrong?

Are there any special steps that are required to enable service mode?

I have just been typing #0011# and then hitting the green call button. It tries, says "unable to process request" and boots me back to the main screen. Am I missing something?

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3

[edit] Figured it out. Apparently that wasn't "#0011#" and was *#0011#, as in "type * first"[/edit]
This is not working for me. It just acts like a dead phone number. Says it cannot be completed as dialed. Im not sure what i am doing wrong.
