Help Wifi issues question..

So I think that Wifi issues with the DX are well documented, but I haven't seen the issue that I have.

At home, I can connect to my Secured Wireless network without issue. It never drops the connection, uses the connection exactly as I would expect.

At work, we have an insecure wireless network. I sit directly underneath the access point and I see the network in my list of available networks with full strength. When I try to connect into it, sometimes it connects and othertimes, it just tries to and doesn't. Either way, once it does, it will drop the connection about 5-10 minutes later and I'm stuck starting back over again. I talked to our IT guys here and they say that the network is pretty standard and there shouldn't be anything special that I need to do. Just wondering if this might be related to the issues that the DX was seeing with wifi.

I am now running Gingerbread, unrooted, but have seen this issue on every ROM that I have ever run on my DX while rooted and on FROYO.

There could be one or more of several reasons for poor connectivity on one wifi network over another.

I first suspect the channel the poor connection's router is operating on.

7 and 11 seem to be reported as the two best. Most network admins don't pay much attention to the channel number, and many even change them routinely as a security measure (not needed), often borking good connectivity or accidentally improving connectivity.
