Help WiFi Issues

El Presidente

Beware The Milky Pirate!
I've just been given the Wildfire S as a mobile for work. Aside from the low internal storage, it seems to be a nice little handset. Unfortunately, I've been hit with the WiFi issue which appears to be an inherent bug in the earlier variants of Gingerbread on HTC devices. Easily sorted by giving myself a static IP.

HTC have released a patch for the Desire HD which has sorted, are there any plans to do so on the Wildfire S? I'm network branded so I presume I'd have to wait a bit longer anyway for Orange to add their bloatware to it.

Whilst the core version of Android on the handset will be 2.3.3 (that comes from Google), HTC will add their Sense overlay to it and all the apps that come along with it. If you look in the software info section (Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information), you'll see a software number. Whilst the Android version should stay the same (unless they're doing a major OS upgrade), the software number will change dependant on whether or not your phone is straight from HTC (unbranded) or has software from your network provider on it (branded). When updates are released, they normally go to Unbranded handsets first, then the network operators will ask HTC to put whatever extra software they want on there and it takes a little longer to come out as the networks have to approve the software for release.

My software number is 1.36.61.2, I suspect yours will be different. On my other handset, the Desire HD, before I'd rooted etc, my software number was 2.36.405.2. The 405 signified I had an unbranded handset.

I see now, in here "network" means your mobile servise provider. For example I use Vodafone (from Turkey) and my network name (I guess) is vodafone. But there is a conflict, I have had my phone via my mobile servise provider, vodafone. Vodafone announced that, they give HTC Wildfire S for a noticable price, and I sign a contract that I will use vodafone 2 years within a constant terms. Then, vodafone gave me a HTC Wildfire S. But as you say, my software version is 1.37.468.4 so I guess it means I use a network branded machine, too. But I have installed the firmware anyway..

As far as I'm aware, vodafone have some sort of deal with HTC meaning their branded software will get released at the same time as (sometimes even before) HTC release their unbranded software.
