Root Wifi just says "error" and obviously doesn't work

After successfully installing cyanogenmod 6.1 I noticed when I try to enable my wifi it just says "error" underneath and thats it.

So I have been searching around for an answer to this problem, and concluded it might be fixed by changing the Kernel. However, I could be wrong your advice will be appreciated.

Anyway, since I believe the problem was with the stock kernel that came with cyanogen6.1 I tried changing it. I tried various kernels for my droid incredible including hydra and slayher, but for some reason after I install the kernel my phone would not boot up past the white "HTC Incredible" loading screen. I did have some luck with the Hydra kernel and it did boot up to the home screen, however the touch screen did not work and I was not able to do anything on my phone.

Basically this post is for help regarding my wifi and/or help finding a kernel that actually works which may help my wifi problem.

Just for more info:
I have a droid Incredible 2.2.1 version
Kernel Version is currently 2.6.32.15-gca2b55c-dirtykoush
Mod version: CyanogenMod-6.1.0-RC1-Inc

You need to use an aosp kernal with cyanogen. Kernels & More - The Incredible List
