Root Wifi Nils Business sense [6/30]

I am having some problems with the newest version of Nils Business sense. The 6/30 ICS v5.6. I flashed it today, and when trying to get everything set up WiFi won't turn on. It says "Turning on" and just hangs there.

I read one thing in the xda developers thread that said to delete /system/misc/wifi and reboot. I tried that and had no luck.

I should specify I have not run the Ruu's, so I'm still on the stock firmware and radio's etc. I'm also S-On.

Last, I would try to post in Nils thread on XDA but I haven't done my "10-posts" so it won't let me.

Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

how did you flash the rom?

did you manually flash the boot.img,or did you fastboot boot your recovery and allow recovery to flash it for you? what did you pick on the rom install part of aroma installer?

wifi issues are usually a mismatch between the kernel and wifi module,so it sounds like you just have the wrong(but not completely incompatible) kernel.

things i would try:
-fastboot boot recovery
-wipe boot, system, cache and dalvik cache. if you dont care about re-setting everything up,wipe data/factory reset as well.
-reflash rom(choose Install ROM for S-OFF completely and S-ON without kernel in aroma installer)
-reflash firmware patch

failing that,
-fastboot boot recovery
-wipe boot, system, cache and dalvik cache. if you dont care about re-setting everything up,wipe data/factory reset as well.
-reflash rom, chosing Install kernel for S-ON devices option. make sure the boot.img updates in hboot after the rom install. if you arent asked to update,or get an error, let us know what it is.

Hmmm...I don't think I wiped boot. Maybe that's my problem

wiping boot will make sure that you dont boot the rom with the old kernel, making you think the kernel install went as planned. if the new kernel doesnt install, youl hang at the htc screen.

if the new kernel flashes successfully, then it wont matter if you wiped boot or not,as the new boot image will overwrite the old.

not wiping boot, and the phone booting with the old kernel could very well be the prollem :)

I tried wiping boot this morning. Everything installed fine, then it kicked me back to the stock bootloader (white screen with funky colored writing). I choose reboot (what I normally do with every flash) and it shut off and booted right back to the stock boatloadet. Tried temp. Flash amon ra, reboot there, same thing. Had to go to work, so quick wiped everything again and ran my nandroid so I would have a working phone.:). Thoughts?

Thanks

If you are still running the original firmware which means you were running GB, did you flash the GB firmware patch right after the new rom install. Just in case it did not install with the Aroma method.

No, I didn't try that. I did check it in the aroma installer. Is that how the phone would behave without the patch? Just boot to bootloader?

Did it ask you to update the kernel, and say the update was complete? Sounds like.maybe aroma is screwing it up for you.

I assume same thing happens if you pull the battery, then power on normally?

Unfortunately I ran out of time. I had to get to work, so I just quick got into amon ra and started a nandroid restore and took off for work. Luckily it came on when the nandroid finish. I will try a few things tonight. I do have the firmware patch on my phone, so if it won't reboot tonight ill try flashing that and see what happens.

If you are on the GB firmware you *must* run the firmware patch BEFORE flashing the ROM. It's right there in the OP. The wifi symptoms you are having are a direct result of that.

Before flashing the Rom? It says the firmware patch is a part of aroma installer.. I guess I misread something.

My bad all. I missed the part in "aroma installer" where it says rebooting to bootloader to install kernel, press power when there to finish installation.

That's my bad. All appears to be working now...I hope.

Thanks for all your help.

ahhh makes sense now. since you hadnt installed the kernel, every time you tried to boot, the script directed you back to bootloader. it for some reason didnt click yerterday that you were rebooting from fastboot before pushing power to let hboot flash the kernel :o

i personally am not a fan of aroma,IMO it makes things a lil more confusing. i would really prefer to just manually flash different zip files one after the other in recovery rather that deal with aroma.

i do think you could have picked the s-off install option and it would have worked...

but at any rate, glad its now working for you now. wifi and all seems happy?

as ice said, old firmware patch is included in aroma,he shouldnt need to flash it, period.

but if he did,it should be flashed immediate after the rom. flashing it before,it wont change anything. flashing the rom after will overwrite it,letting the rom boot expecting new fimrware ;)

under firmware options,it says this:
NEW FIRMWARE
FLASH LATEST ICS RUU TO GET ALL BENEFITS BEFORE FLASHING this ROM
NOTE: Latest RUU and Instructions in post 3

OLD FIRMWARE
Flash ROM and patch, in Aroma Installer, only if you did not flash the RUU

you may have confused flashing new firmware with flashing the old firmware patch :)

Yep, all appears to be working good. Thanks all for your help. The real problem did have to deal with Aroma, it appears to me that it would install all. So I stopped paying attention. The last time I did it I watched the whole way and it flashed for only a few seconds that it was rebooting and press power. So yea it was a bit confusing with Aroma, but still everything works.
