Help WiFi only when looking at settings

I can turn on the WiFi radio from the home screen widget or from Settings -> Wireless, but I have to go all the way to the screen where you can add and manage connections before it will change to getting an IP address and connect to the access point. It absolutely won't connect until then. There are no signal problems and I never drop connections while I'm in a reasonable range. WiFi will reconnect itself if I reboot and don't unlock the phone. I've had the MT for about 2 weeks now. Aside of substandard battery life and not getting some of my Amazon Apps (mostly games) that I had on the Samsung Intercept to install, the phone has been great.

I have installed CWM 4.0.1.4 only. Any suggestions?

I have the same exact issue. some times the wifi widget will work but wifi kicks in allot quicker if I go into the wifi settings instead.
