Root WiFi question

buzzcon

Android Enthusiast
I always use WiFi while home (for obvious reasons) and have the same issue with every ROM. I will be using an app, lets say the Play Store, and while exploring the apps available (some can have a long list) my WiFi will disconnect, then connect, causing my search results to go back to the beginning. This happens on a few apps that have long search results like the Play Store (another is Make Your Clock App). Is this something that is normal or can I change a setting somewhere. I have several other devices connected to my network including 2 other Android phones (Samsung Galaxy S III and Droid Razr) and they do not have the same problem.

Sorry for being a pest, thanks for your patience.

Currently using CM9 Build 20120909, but this has happened on every other ROM I have flashed.

Are you assuming that Wifi disconnects and reconnects, or do you actually see the Wifi bar turning off and on? I ask because I have a problem with Play Store not saving my scroll spot, i.e., when I scroll down a list of apps and click on one and go back, it will take me back to the top of the search list instead of to the position of the search list I was on prior to clicking something. I've noticed that a lot of people had this issue before.

The actual WiFi icon in the status bar disappears, then reappears gray, then blue (in this case). Plus I cannot scroll any longer because it says the results are loading, then the search/app resets and refers to the beginning of the search. It gets annoying which flashing an update or trying a new ROM. I hesitate using Titanium Backup because I believe it can cause more problems that it cures.

I usually just go into "My Apps" with the Play Store and install my apps that way. Usually if I am away from my PC, otherwise I would use that. But after 2 years of trying new apps, the list can get fairly large.

I would recommend making sure your Wireless Router has the most current firmware. What router are you using?

Wouldnt the other phones fully functioning reduce that chance?

After you check your firmware also try a base rom with no apps, and see if it recurs. Maybe it's one of the apps you are using.

My router/switch is a Linksys WRT54G. Never updated the firmware. Never really felt a need for it. As I stated, my kids phones work fine. I tried both phones.

I might upgrade to a dual band because my son needs G for his Xbox.

I would still upgrade the firmware no matter, also make sure you are using WPA2 and not WEP. I remember having funny issues with WEP and decided might as well use the higher authentication as WEP can be hacked so easily.

I would use WPA2 and did until my son bought an Xbox that does not support it. He uses it wirelessly and no way I am running cat5 to his room . I did find a router/switch that I might grab off Ebay and try that.

I cannot shut things down until the weekend because I am running two broadcasts and cannot interrupt them during busy hours.

We'll get it figured out one way or another.

im guessing your son is a teen so he must have a laptop/pc in his room right ?.... you can simply bridge a connecting between laptop/pc to xbox that way your pc can connect on WPA2 and can bridge its connection to the xbox like stated WEP is easy to hack WPA2 is better (now a days anything can be hacked either way :D ) i have many reasons why i bridge my connection from pc to xbox ... 2 of them is to use WPA2 and i aint buying a $100 dollar N adapter that only works on xbox  i rather spend that on a high end gaming router if you interested let me know ill show you how

this has nothing to do with ur wifi questions, but more for the xbox, since u said it need G im going to guess that its a newer Xbox Slim with built in internet, i also have one and it made me extremely mad lol, it can connect to N but only if its 2.4ghz N and almost all dual band routers have G in 2.4 and the N is at 5.0 and it can only be swapped by killing the other radio, and sometimes even then you cant lower the N to 2.4

this:

Microsoft - Wireless N Network Adapter for Xbox 360 - PHD-00010

Is the Offical Xbox adaptor $60, It Doubles the Xboxs range, and allows it to handle both G and N at either 2.4 or 5.0Ghz, i also think it allows for different securities to be used but dont quote me on that lol

That is also the reason i got mad at the Xbox lol i had an old fat xbox with that adapter so i could connect to any wireless internet i wanted, then when i decided to buy the new slim which has built in wifi i sold my old xbox with the adapter still on it, only to find out the slim xbox had the 2.4Ghz limit on it lol so now i have a $100 Dual Band Netgear and the only device i think can use it is my lil brothers SIII phone, so if i ever want my xbox to get the better N speeds i need to go drop another $60 on the adapter

P.S. - it should still work even tho the design of the adapter is set-up for the old fat xbox's, if your going to buy one of the adapters be sure its the black one with dual antenna's cause thats the Dual band 2.4/5.0 G/N Adapter, cause they also have a single antenna white one which is only for 2.4Ghz G
