Help WiFi range

My newly puchased N7 v2 is wonderful except in the area of WiFi range. The unit connects quickly and never drops our home signal but the speed drops cosiderably in certain area's of the house.

I have an LG G2 and side by side the wifi connection on the G2 is very fast in the poor area's for my N7.

That was a lot of typing to get to my main question...

I am rooted and running stock 4.4.2 is there a radio I should try installing to increase my wifi range?

I don't think there is any radio app you can download to increase the sensitivity of the wifi circuit in the N7. I'd assume that is a hardware issue.

You could download the WiFi Analyzer app to your tablet and phone and track the signal strength around the house using your N7 and your G2. Sometimes a repositioning of your router can make a big difference in signal strength throughout the house. I moved my router from an end wall in the basement to a side wall about 8 feet away and it made a huge difference. I have heard other people have moved their router a foot or two from its current position and it made a difference.

Using WiFi Analyzer you could move the router a bit, then check signal strength in areas around your house. Continue experimenting and checking signal strengths.

I use a wifi booster plugged into an outlet 2 rooms away from my router to boost the signal. It works phenomenally for me. It boosts my wifi all the way to my back yard.

What brand are you using?

I changed kernels(to utilize double tap to wake) it now seems to work fine in the farther reaches of my house. I don't think it was the kernel as much as maybe clearing all cache\dalvik after my KK upgrade.

I have the NETGEAR Universal WiFi Range Extender (WN3000RP). I purchased it at Walmart for under $40. It's not the cheapest or the fanciest, but has to be the easiest to set up. You just plug it into an outlet, push the "search" button on it AND the "search" button on your home router and it connects right up.

I have to say, I was very skeptical that it would help at my house, as my home was built in 1914 and has the wooden slats/wire mesh covered in plaster construction on every wall. So, in order to reach the back room of the house, the signal has to go through 5 walls. My wife rarely was able to get a consistent signal, even with our big, bad NETGEAR N750 router. But almost immediately upon the two devices synching, we had a STRONG signal all over the house. I'm very pleased and my wife is extremely happy to be able to use her laptop and Kindles (4 of them) back in "her" room.

Hope this helps.

Also can't hurt to check the channel of your wifi, and if it may conflict with other nearby signals. I used the pc app InSSIDer and found many overlapping channels in my area (apt building) so set my wifi to the least used channel. I check it now and then to be sure it's still in the least used range.
