Help WiFi Router interference - need help!

Lurker
My fiance and I just got Verizon htc Rezounds.

When we got home we connected them to our wireless network, which runs on a Netgear Wireless-N-Router WNR 2000. Within 10-15 minutes our phones could no longer connect to the wireless network. Neither could any of our other devices such as laptops.

I turned the wireless router off and then back on and it fixed the problem for about about 15 minutes until all connection was lost again.

Has anyone had this problem? I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Turn off the password and see if the connection remains. Turn off all devices and connect the phones, and then add 1 laptop at a time and wait to see if connectivity is lost. All else fails, tell your fiance that an ex-boyfriend of yours knew how to fix these sort of household appliances. That should light a fire under his butt to get it fixed for you...

Downgrade to router firmware 1.2.0.8. Your current firmware is buggy. Solution is from http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=46266
It's an old thread so there is a possibility that more recent firmware could solve this as well. There's a lot of bad router firmware around and the problem isn't isolated to certain major brands.

I read the suggested thread over at the NetGear site and given a few things a try...

I downloaded wifi analyzer and found that channel 11 is the clearest in my area. I changed my wireless channel from auto to 11.

I am running firmwear 1.2.0.8 on my router.

I am still having the same problem...

Any other suggestions?

Ugh. DLINK DGL-4500 with latest firmware doesn't have this problem. Neither does Linksys E4200v2 with latest firmware. Other than changing routers, your only hope is changing settings on your existing one bit by bit. I'm sure there are others on this forum who can suggest other, less expensive routers that will also work.

I assume, though you never say, that never happened before you got the Rezounds, and only first appeared when you connected them to the router.
Have you had the same issue with only 1 of the phones connected?
I have had no such issues with my Netgear WNR3500L, but I only have 1 Rezound.

You are correct, I never had this problem before bringing home the Rezounds. My Netgear WNR 2000 is 3.5 years old, so I am betting that it might just be too old to handle this many modern devices.

I went out and bought a Netgear N600 Dual Band Router this afternoon and am going to see if that fixes the problem. If not, it goes back to Best Buy and I will try a different brand.

oh... 3.5 years... yeah that's the problem (something half fried in the router). I was also wondering about that. Over the years I've dumped like 5 or 6 Netgear routers already - eventually a router will quit working and we get to upgrade!! I've dumped 3 Belkin routers too at a different location. I'm now using a Cisco-Linksys E4200 - tested to work fine with 16 simultaneous wi-fi devices; had a party here recently and opened the network for the relatives. They showed up with phones, tablets and laptops. But anyways, any new Netgear or Linksys-Cisco router will be fine. Good luck.
