WiFi router MAC address

Utter noob here, activating first smartphone today - LG Optimus S.

My wireless router is set up to limit access to specific MAC addresses. Any idea if that is going to pose a problem getting the phone connected to it - I'm assuming that phones don't have MAC addresses, and I don't want to disable the MAC exclusion on the router for the obvious security reasons.

I believe you're looking for a MAC address and every network device has one - it has to.

On your phone, likely under someplace similar to homescreen -> menu button -> settings -> you'll have an about phone section or something that looks like it and within that some hardware information - your phone's MAC address is likely to be listed.

By the way, a number of people find no particular security increase by MAC access, but it's your choice. Just make sure you're not substituting that for a secure password - in addition to, ok.

PS - most important part - Congrats on your new phone and Welcome to the forums!

I believe you mean MAC address, and every device that can connect to a network has one. If the MAC address to your phone is not allowed in your router then your phone will not connect to your router. In my phone it's in about phone - status.

I've corrected the mis-spelled acronym. ;)

EM's spot-on with his advice. The actual info can be in several different places in "About phone" depending on the Android version installed e.g "Hardware information" or "Status" on my two handsets.

Apologies for the typo, I did indeed mean MAC address. Yes, I've taken all the other usual security precautions on the router, as well as the MAC address list.

Thanks to all, I'll get the MAC address off the phone. Activating shortly, just needed to get some ducks in a row first.
