Help WiFi Signal Problem.

Losky

Lurker
I've had my phone since the beginning of February but I have not tried using the WiFi until now. The only way that I can get a decent signal is if I am right next to my wireless router, and as soon as I walk a few meters away I lose connection. I downloaded the 'WiFi Analyzer' app and the only WiFi signal I could pick up was mine while my laptop picks up WiFi from people who live down the street. It has the same problem with every other router I try. :(

Any suggestions would be great!

If the problem is with different routers than something is wrong with the phone.
What software version is on you phone? If it runs on the latest officially available one, then it may be a good idea to ask HTC to fix it.

I had no problem with v2.2, and now with v2.3 it is also working fine.
Check the Wifi sleep policy (set to never) just in case.

Could be a radio problem, which can be fixed by flashing another radio (you will need to be rooted and this is a risky business).

I don't really want to root it. Iv'e checked through all the settings and even done a factory reset which didn't help. I should also add that with using Bluetooth I get the exact same problem that I need to be right next to the other Bluetooth device for it to work at all. :(

Try turning your phone off & removing the battery, wait a few seconds then replace the battery & turn on the phone.
See if that fixes the problem.
If not try turning your wifi off & then turn off the mobile internet, turn the wifi back on & then the mobile internet.
If none of these work then it could be a rom problem if you are lucky or maybe a hardware fault

My suggestion would be to return it from where you had it from and tell them it appears to be faulty. Reflashing it with another rom or radio MAY fix it, but if it does not you'll invalidate your warranty. Why gamble? Take it back - it's not fit for purpose. Don't be tempted to mess with it.
