Help Wifi signal switching on and off....constantly

In your notification bar, are the arrows constantly lit up? I have an orange down and green up that appears for about 5 seconds then goes away.

For the first time since owning this phone, I was in a known dead zone for Verizon but I was on Wifi. It constantly dropped and i'd get error messages. I was sitting next to his router.
I never noticed this because if it drops in an area with a signal, it will switch to 4g without missing a beat.

I tested this on my own Wifi by turning off data. It will work for a few seconds then drop, then pick up again.

Help!

Does your phone scan Wifi every 5 seconds? Looks like the screenshot below. Then it will stop but start again after a few seconds.

The up and down arrow keys represent data sending and receiving, not your connection going up and down. It's customary for any Internet-connected wifi device to have flickering traffic like that, there are many reasons for it. Nothing to be alarmed about.

Ok...what about the scanning while looking at the Wifi list? Not sure if my screenshot worked but it will show "scannibg" in the top right for a few seconds then go away. Does yours do that?

Yes, because you're on that page it assumes you're looking for an access point to connect to.

Damn...not sure how else to test this.

The problem identified itself while at a friends house where a 4g/3g or even 1x signal is impossible. It constantly dropped signal and brought up app errors. Other phone was fine.

I'm home now and it's not doing it because an intermittent Wifi signal would be covered up by the solid 4g I get here.

Maybe it was just my phone not working with his router.....

You can turn off mobile data, or obviously, wifi, from Settings. Mobile data is under More settings.
