Help Wifi static ip

At work, I use my phone as a controller for the machines, and it requires a static IP to connect
I got a thrive a little bit ago, and saw that I can set static IPs with each network instead of enabling/disabling static each time I want to switch
Is there a way to get this feature on our esteems? Or is it reserved for honeycomb and probably ics devices?

Talk to the network administrator and ask if he can setup static DHCP for your phone. He will need the MAC address of your phones wireless card to do this. If you simply configure your device to use a static IP it will cause problems for the network since the DHCP controller may try to assign that IP to another system (this will cause collisions). The last thing you want to do is piss off the admins because your rogue device is causing issues. Not to mention it is probably against your companies network usage policy to do this yourself.

I coordinated with the techs that set up the system to make sure anything I did wouldn't effect anything badly
He gave me a static IP that wouldn't be used on the network, and I've been using it no problem. As for network usage policy, its a closed network with no internet connection, so I don't think that should be a problem

More than likely your company has a clause in its acceptable use policy for the intranet as well. Even though you can't access internet resources, the network you connect to can still be used to access internal resources/machines as you said. The IT personnel would/should have said something if what you wanted was against policy.
