Are you trying to tether an Android tablet?

I've read that many Android tablets have been purposely designed/configured to not be compatible with ad hoc connections.

Well I am not sure if connecting to an AdHoc network with your OE is what the OP was actually talking about, but it did make me wonder if my OE was able to do it. As of right now I have to say no. :(

The 1st image is that of the AdHoc network I've setup on my Win7 laptop. The laptop is directly cabled to my network and then is acting as a AdHoc OPEN (that part is kinda important) hotspot.

The next image is my n810 connected to that AdHoc network. You can see that the Wifi icon has a dot above it. That dot means that it is on an AdHoc network. For whatever reason if I use WPA2, the only real good option that Win7 gives for encryption, my n810 will see and try to connect to the network but never does. Whatever, for my purposes when I use it like that and for this it is actually good as it offers a simple proof of concept. (I've also setup networks like this on MacOS laptops and to me that networking stack is superior but that the BSD network stack is > than Window's is kinda a no brainer.)

Then you can see my OE that can't even see the AdHoc network. Not cool man! I have to say that while I understand that this type of feature is only likely to be used by power users and above, it still is not cool.

I'm fairly certain Android311 is attempting to use his Optimus Elite as a hotspot for other tablets, phones or other wifi-capable devices in general. He has been able to use this phone as a hotspot for his PC. Is this correct?

I know that my Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus WIFI-only tablet is currently incapable of recognizing my OE as a connectable AP within the tablet's WIFI settings/scanning feature, but this is a known issue for this particular tablet as well as others. Note: Using the WIFI Analyzer app on this same tablet, I can see that the OE's hotspot exists and has a great signal.

I am able to use my OE as a hotspot for my laptop with the Barnacle Wifi Tether app.

I'm successfully using wifi tether root to share my connection with my nook color running cyanogenmod. Works great

That's cool.

Would you mind sharing the settings you're using in Wifi Tether for Root Users? (That's the full app name, right?)

Which Device-Profile? Setup-Method? and any other settings..

I've been able to use Barnacle (which only offers WEP) with my laptop, but I haven't been as successful with Wifi Tether for Root Users. I can connect my laptop to the hotspot AP created with Wifi Tether for Root Users, but it doesn't provide internet access.

Thanks.

Sorry I didn't put more detail in my question guys, also thanks for all your replies, I can connect to my PC via ad hoc using wifi tether for root users, my moms kindle fire can't even seen my wifi tether or my friends Samsung phone, not sure why this is happening

EDIT: My phone gets very hot while running tether, I know all phones do but sometimes I have to set it in front of a fan, yestarday i got a message stating the phone was overheating and to takethe battery out
