Root Wifi tether for root

I've been using WiFi Tether since my Poot Root without issues bit I do have to say that I did like the hotspot functionality that Quick Settings gave me with my old OV. Anyone try Quick Settings since Poot Root to get into the system hotspot feature (if there is one)?

I dont know if there is a hotspot feature, but im pretty sure we could find out. I know vm has a tethering plan, so it's possible.

The worst thing that can happen is you get an error 67 which can be fixed with a call to Virgin Mobile support. Turn your 3g on first but I don't think it matters. I'm not sure about the encryption setup method, but I was playing around with the settings trying to get it to work and this is what ended up working for me:

1. Go in to the settings and click Change Setup-Method and change it to WEXT (ad-hoc)

2. Then click Encryption setup method and change it to wpa_supplicant

3. After my computer connected, I went back to the main screen and pressed the menu button, then clicked Access Control.. It showed my computer, and I clicked the check box next to my computer and then clicked apply, then it let me tether.

I think you can actually just turn off the access control, but this is what finally worked for me so I stopped messing with it.

Would I get error 67 if I used auto for the setup method?

Why put it on auto when he just told you what makes it work? Sometimes things work better when done manually.

AFAIK, the Elite is only capable of providing a WEXT ad hoc AP, so using the auto setting should default to that.

That worked fine for my tablet when I was running CM9 (ICS). After switching to CM10 (Jelly Bean), my tablet wasn't capable of connecting to an ad hoc AP. I think that is expected behavior in most currently available Jelly Bean releases. It will not work with ad hoc connections, at least not yet. So on CM10, I just use Bluetooth tethering instead.

How would I go about setting up bluetooth tethering?

After reading this thread it seems as though an ad-hoc connection is the safe route in not getting the data error 67. However, I just feel safe asking if it's safe using the supported widget that comes with WiFi Tether for Root?

Thanks in advance :)

Yes. All this does is enable or disable the hotspot i believe.

Oh and- how does the wifi hotspot work with foxfi?

I don't recommend using the WiFi hotspot feature of FoxFi, since I got a temporary error 67 when I tried. I only had to reboot to get my data connection back, rather than resetting the phone and reactivating, but I may have just been lucky.

The Bluetooth DUN tethering feature is safe and worked well.
