What does the agreement say?
I can say that I've tethered my phone as my primary internet connection since the summer of 2008. I typically use at least 15 gigs/month.
yeah but does rooting the droid still disable the GPS??
thats like the MAIN feature I use on my droid. Like I can't live without it.
PDAnet does bluetooth tethering and usb tethering but this hack creates an adhoc wifi network. pdanet free only does http request, and the full version is like $30 to do everything else.

pssst... the linux tethering app is 100% free... I'm loving ubuntu

As far as PDA tethering not being able to log into email,I do it all the time and log into different web sites to include military sites. I have never tried to order anything yet but I yet to be denied access to any sites I go visit. The AKO site is very secure with many hurdles to jump but I do get in as though I was on a WIFI. MOST times I forget I am tethered. Yes I am in a strong 3G area.
Can you put wpa2 encryption on the connection? If not it's pretty damn useless, for me anyway. The only time I've tethered my laptop to my phone was at DefCon and Shmoocon. There's no way in hell I'm using a wifi connection within a mile of either of those cons. With both I used a usb connection to my ATT Tilt.

No wpa2 as of yet, only wep-128 unfortunately. Since I don't live in crazy nerd hackerville like you apparently do I'm not that worried. The wifi tether app does provide access control based on mac address, but I'm sure you know some way around that too![]()

Thanks for the link...
I'm running ubuntu and trying to find a way to do it with the wifi tether but ubuntu doesn't like the adhoc network on the droid, so I'm dual booting Win7 I was using a proxy app but just for web browsing.
PS. That quote was answering another persons question about PDAnet. I Don't use PDAnet.
tried and tested and works using ubuntu netbook remix... i dual boot that with windows 7 ultimate on my netbook. rep points would be apreciated... clicking on that scale in the lower corner of my post and a thank you works good.
i just started using ubuntu a few days after xmas once i found out that the basic windows 7 doesn't even let you change your background without upgrading for mad money, and every day i find less reasons to reboot to windows... today i found some blu-ray burning app for my desktop. next is to find out if i can get my zune to communicate with ubuntu
