WiFi Tether not being recognized by Tablet

Just bought a Acer A500 Tablet for my wife but can't get it to detect her rooted Hero and WiFi tether. It sees my Evo WiFi Tether no problems. Someone said that it was because it is the Ad-Hoc. Is there a problem with all Tablets or just the Acer that I bought? Has anyone gotten a tablet to connect via WiFi to the Hero?

I have connected my B&N Nook Color to my Sprint HTC Hero numerous times via Wi-Fi Tether. I did it with multiple ROMS too, like the stock one, CyanogenMod 7, and Honeycomb. ;)

That is weird that it will not detect your Sprint HTC Hero. I have never had an issue with that, though right now I am experiencing issues with the data cutting out when I leave Wi-Fi on constantly, since my Sprint HTC Hero is no longer on the Sprint network. It stays connected to my Wi-Fi router, but the data does not continue to flow for some odd reason. I am working on a solution as we speak. :)
 
Which version of WiFi Tether are you using? Not sure if it would make a difference. Are all the Wifi Tethers open or does any of them use WPA/WPA2?

I used Barnacle Wi-Fi Tether on my Sprint HTC Hero. I am pretty sure they all support encryption.

I always had encryption on mine, just in case. How are you liking the Acer Iconia A500 anyway?
 
So far, I am liking the Acer when I get a chance to mess with it. Since I got if for my wife, my time is very short. :) Got it because Staples has a $100 coupon (slickdeals) which brought the Acer Tablet down to $299. Could not pass it up.

Yeah. I saw that deal and have been very tempted by it as well.

I just got a new handset though, so that should keep me busy for a while. I will probably wait for Ice Cream Sandwich tablets to come out before looking into another tablet. Besides, I still love my B&N Nook Color. It is the bee's knees.
 
I didn't get my Asus tablet to recognize ad-hoc networks either, so I used the pdanet app to tether via bluetooth to my tablet. Works great.

The tablet can not read it because it is adhoc but you can go to google and type in android wifi tether and then download the latest verison of the apk. When done installing open the apk and go to menu then to setting. Click on change device profile and chose your phone. Then click on change set-up method then chose netd(master). Close out the settings and start the tether. This will crease a mobile access point that is not adhoc and your tablet will be able to connect to it. I use it will my galaxy tab 10.1
 
Trentpreston thanks for the info... but I don't see the "master" option for the Change Setup Method for the HTC Hero, only see automatic. I do see it for some other devices in the list. Trying to broadcast WiFi in AP mode to connect my Toshiba Thrive tablet. Also tried bluetooth broadcast, but the tethering option is not there on the thrive under the Bluetooth settings. Any help is appreciated.

My HTC EVO VIEW 4G (honeycomb) will not keep the data flowing either. if i play with my security settings on my router, it seems to work sometimes, but when walk out of range and back in again it will remember the network, but refuses to transmit data. did you ever figure that out? all the Att WIFI techs say its the tablet and all the Sprint techs say its the Att WIFI... any suggestions/updates?
