Root Wifi tether not working

My phone is just rooted with no custom roms. I cant get barnacle or wifi tether to work.

I have wiped my phone completely. Set cpu works fine so I dont think its a problem with the root. Has this been a big issue with others. Ive seen people having problems getting it to work with custom roms but not stock rooted.

Is there a direction i could be placed? I've been reading xda and this forum to no avail. Am i just being a moron by missing the information?
