Help Wifi tether not working

I have just bought a Galaxy Note and so far I'm very impressed by it.
I have one issue. The wifi tether seems to not be working.
I turn it on, and I get the icon. My Macbook pro sees the new wifi network and connects to it.
Then nothing happens. I cannot use it to surf the net or anything.
The Note is unbranded, open and running 2.3.6.

Any ideas? I really need wifi tethering. It's one of the things I use my phones most for.

I have fixed the fault. it was with the MBP not the Note. For some reason I had to reset the network settings on the MBP.... Never had to do this before.

All OK now.

I have the same problem. How did u resert your MBP?

MBP, incidentally, means Mac Book Pro. It wasn't clear to me at first - I thought it was an obscure networking setting on the Note
