Help Wifi Tether?

Were you first able to do a wifi connection with a standard wifi router? Just wondering if you could get wifi working with the Xoom in general.

I think its an infrastructure vs ad hoc network problem. I had the same problem with the tab. Someone will come up with a workaround, but you'll probably need to root the xoom also
Has anyone tried this using PDAnet and the Bluetooth option?
I am on a HTC Incredible and wanted to use PDAnet in bluetooth mode for my data to the Xoom. I was planning on waiting for the wifi only version of the Xoom.
My thought is that when 4G finally does show up in my area I would upgrade my phone to 4G and then still use bluetooth from it to the Xoom (still using PDAnet).
Does that make sense or would bluetooth be too slow?
I do not expect 4G to be in my area for about a year so upgrading a Xoom 3G to 4G is pointless as then there is no connection. Or will the 4G default to 3G if 4G is not successful?
You mentioned you have a Rooted Droid. Is that what allows you to tether? Do you still have to pay Verizon fees for tethering when you go that route?

No extra fees for tethering when rooted. I have the app called "Wireless Tether" I can connect my laptop to my phone using the phone as wifi but I cannot do it with the xoom. I was able to do it with the bluetooth option in the app but it seems a lot slower to me.

I can tether from my rooted droid x...works perfect. Look into seeing if your phone needs some sort of tether patch to work with all devices. Ironicly enough my X would only tether with I pads till I flashed the patch...

Did you just turn on "Use Bluetooth" in the Wireless Tether App on your OG Droid? What did you do on the XOOM?

The TBH patch is specifically for the 3G Hotspot app ONLY.
It does Not help with tethering with the "Wireless Tether" app. (Tested...)
I am using the 3G Hotspot app w/ patch to tether my DX 3G to my XOOM successfully.
To those that have figured out how to tether can you please in simple terms for guys that are not as smart as you, tell us how you are doing this? I see a lot of I used this patch and I flashed this patch from Team Black Hat Etc. For the dumb guys like me can you please break it down in easy terms or instructions what we need to do to get tethering working? Thanks for the help!

Go to market, find the team blackhat app. BUY it. Support a great member of the community (P3Droid!)

Your Droid X MUST be rooted.
Make sure you have the Droid X bootstrap recovery installed ANDDDD then applied. (Avail in market too)
(Do this by opening it in your app drawer and tapping bootstrap recovery, then granting superuser privileges when asked. A success window will then popup.)
If you do not have the 3G Hotspot app installed anymore, it is available in TBH app
for download. Download it.
Then also download the hotspot patch AND hotspot UNPATCHER zips using the TBH app.
These files will be saved on your sd card here:
Sdcard/teamblackhat
Once this is complete,
Open your app drawer, launch Droid x bootstrap. Tap on "Reboot Recovery"
You will need to select and install the 3G Hotspot zip you just downloaded... so navigate to the teamblackhat directory as mentioned above. Install it.
I then rebooted as a precaution.
Then I went booted back into recovery.
Now apply the 3G patcher.
Once done, back out, and reboot.
Open app drawer, 3G Hotspot.
Tap on checkbox to enable.
ENABLE.
Change tether encryption to WEP.
create your password.
Now enable the Wi-fis
on your Xoom.Then enter password to connect to your DX.
TADAAAAAAAAAA!
You are now feeding your data hungry XOOM with your DROID X
I really think Verizon needs some better tablet data package prices.
$35 for 3 GB seems like highway robbery since I pay $29.99 for "UNLIMITED" data on my X.

Is this just for the X or will it also work on OG Droid?
BT works fine. I have the Wireless Tether app (v 2.0.6) in my Droid. Wifi will not work. Upgraded to 2.0.7 experimental with the same result, BT but no Wifi.

There will be slight moments where the wifi connection might not seem to load a page, but will if you attempt to reload or click on the link.
This is not the Xoom's fault nor the X's...
It is the 3G Hotspot app itself. Its an application that has never been updated...
Need I say more?
