Help Wifi Tether

As long as your carrier has a tethering option (additional data plan may be required) you can use your Droid X as a mobile hotspot and connect your Nook that way. I do it all the time with my Nook and my Nexus One.

You can ask about the mobile hotspot option for the X over in the Droid X Forums, I'm sure they'll set you up.

I'm almost positive that a Nook Color on stock software will not be able to connect to an adhoc network. Could be wrong, tho...

It will work fine. There are no issues. Using the phone as a wireless hotspot isn't an adhoc network. It's connecting to a wireless router, same as any other wifi connection.

OP,
You don't need to root the NC. As for your DX, there are two ways to do it. You either abide by Verizon's TOS, and pay for that option for wireless hotspot access. Hit the wireless hotspot icon, and you're all set.

Or, you Violate Verizon's TOS, root your phone and install one of the wireless tethering options in the market. If you're on Gingerbread, then you'll need to do a little more work. Technically, this is theft of services and is quasi-illegal, so I won't discuss this any more.

That is incorrect. Maybe different tether programs operate differently, but Wireless Tether does not.

Even Windows identifies it as an adhoc network.

The adhoc indicator is clearly seen, as the WiFi "hotspot" uses an adhoc connection, which a stock NC will not connect to.
