Root Wifi Tether

Ok so I successfully rooted the phone with the newbies guide. Everything works great but I can't get wireless tether to work. On my old Evo 4g I used this app:

android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting

enabled routing fix and it worked like a charm. On my Evo V I get an error every time I start it. Tried enabling and disabling routing fix and no go. Any ideas how to get this thing to Wireless Tether. Can I use the built in hotspot app after rooting? Should I switch to Barnacle Wifi Tether? Thanks!
 
My phone came with a wifi hotspot app in the drawer. I use that and it works.

I don't pay for it on my plan.

pdaNet should work too. No need to root with pdaNet. Having a hotspot is much more better though for multiple device support!

Yes i know but I'm greedy and don't like sharing my bandwidth lol, plus i would only use it for my PC. and its a much faster connection though USB. Thanks I'll take a look at toughs apps.
 
Is there any way to Bluetooth Tether? I prefer it over WiFi just because it is less of a battery monster (on both my laptop/iPad and my phone.)

There are apps and widgets available but everyone that I have ever tried has been wonky as hell unfortunately.
 
So, Wifi tethering with a root app will not be charged by Virgin? I suspect that if you tethered a lot they could find out...but has anyone gotten charged or warned?
 
Just wanted to say thank you for the heads up on WiFI Tether, along with the settings... Tethering is the only thing that I wanted from rooting, and it works. :D
 
I cant get the wifi tether app from the marketplace to work. I am rooted with s-off. When I try to connect it says limited access. Then I will pull up the log and it says starting softtap, failed, starting tethering interface, failed. I know I am suppose to check under device profile, generic ics, but there isnt a option for that, just generic, generic ics/jb (wlan 0), generic ics/jb (wlan 1), then a bunch of phone options. There is also no option for mss clamping, I did mark routing fix though. The only other things that are marked are idle shutdown, vibrate on connect, disable wakelock, thats it. The wifi tether version is 3.2-beta2***BETA***

Can anyone offer any suggestions why I am having problems connecting??

i use that apk, works fine. its a slightly older version than whats on the market, but it does have a transparent widget! lol. might be an issue with the new version of the app, honestly couldnt tell you.
 
How are 4G speeds when you wifi tether with the android Wifi Tether? I can successfully connect but the 4G tethering speeds on my laptop are much slower than the 4G on the phone itself. I ran speed test on the phone and got 4-5Mbps/.5Mbps while on the computer tethered I got .8Mbps/.3Mbps. Are there any settings to boost the wifi tether to match the speed that the phone gets?

I used wifi_tether_v3_2-beta2.apk

Thank you for the link. I downloaded it and tried. It does have the generic ic whick I selected. My pc does connect but it says limited access. Then at the top of the wifi window it says not internet access. I right clicked on my ssid network name, chose properties, then diagnostics. At the end of the diagnostic check, it said the default gateway is not available. I dont know very much about this but if anyone has any feedback on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Did you select the profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0), along with checking routing and clamping (which should be further down the list). Restart the wifi tether and then try to connect.

If it says connected/limited access, you can right click the wireless icon on the PC and select troubleshoot. Let it do it's thing and usually works.

Same problem here. But my 4G download speed are at lot slower. 3G tethering works fine.

I read somewhere on xda, you needed to change the proxy settings on the client to get this to work.

I am surprised nobody else has complained about 4G tethering speed.

When I was in Chicago on vacation, I tethered to 4G and got 9MB/s down. Although the coverage was great there, so maybe that's the issue.

I did that and it said troubleshooting could not fix the problem
