wifi tether?

That is all interesting but nobody telling anyone how to do anything!!

I got a AWE and I rooted it with Kingo Android Root which you can find by searching the web. I have also run Root Checker Basic to make sure it was completely rooted and it passed the test. I have since trying to find a WiFi app that will connect to the 3G and give me access from my notebook. I had this feature before on my old phone and wanted it for the few times I'm not in a WiFi area. Can't seem to find anything that will work as yet.

Here you can find out the options I selected to get WiFi tethering to work on my phone.

Keep in mind I only tried 'em once hoping they'd work (it did.)

Thanks! Those settings work for me. Although I get an error message when I start the wifi, I can still connect to it and use it. Wi-fi encryption and Access Control don't seem to work though, nor does changing the SSID name. No matter what I do it's still called AndroidTether.

Yes, I can't change the SSID, nor do my usage stats (upload/download) show up at the bottom of the main screen. Also, I don't always get a notification when a client connects (though the client usually shows up in the access log list). I have not tried access control or encryption.

Still, it is progress....because it does work otherwise. ;)

..and yes, I forgot to mention that I used the JB/wlan0 setting like Josh did above.

Hey sorry it took me so long to get back in here, but I see that someone else already found that page with the tether apps. I see that you're having problems with it though. No one has mentioned WHICH of the apps they choose from the list? I installed the experimental one at the very top of the list and everything is working as it should for me. Notifications, access control, upload and download meters the whole shebang.
Maybe it's in the settings?

Device profile- generic ICS/JB (wlan0)

Setup method- Auto

Set Netd Max Client Cmd-NOT checked

Enable wifi encryption-checked

I have changed SSID no prob

Mac addresses spoof-NOT checked

Don't disable Bluetooth-NOT checked

Wi-Fi driver reload-NOT checked

Wi-Fi driver reload 2-NOT checked

Enable access control- checked

Keep alive connection checking-checked

MSS CLAMPING- checked

Routing fix - NOT checked

Disable update check- CHECKED!

NEVER UPDATE SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE HAPPY WITH AS IT IS!

I would suggest that if you change your settings close the app and restart the phone before trying it out. May not matter but can't hurt either?
Hope this works for everyone else as well as it has for me

I am on 3.3 beta. I tried 3.4 exp first and got similar results.

I'll try again with your settings.

Thanks!

I feel the need to update as it addresses and fixes bugs.

Absolutely Joshua, but if you've got a buggy app you pretty much know it. All too often updates are based on a problem with a particular model of phone that have nothing to do with yours. At the very least you should watch reviews after an update is issued for a few days. Particularly reviews from the same model phone as yours.
With side loaded apps like our wifi app were not likely to have the advantage of checking reviews..sooo as long I'm happy with what I've got I'm not messin with it. To each his own tho.

You can install the stable version of Wifi Tether for Root Users on Google Play and check the reviews of the stable version.

Oddly enough, Wifi Tether may REQUIRE encryption. At least it did with mine. Tried the Wifi Tether version on Google Play as well as the 3.3 beta2 version and both versions refused to broadcast any signal, UNTIL I enabled encryption. Then it worked fine.

That is odd especially considering that on my Kyocera Event using the TrevEmod version I couldn't connect unless encryption was turned off.. Also always had an MSS Clamping error. But at least I was tethered.

I'm still using the experimental 3.4 tether app with the setting I listed in an earlier post. I've started noticing some problems. Always have to start tethering app twice before it will actually work. It will always show that it started the first time but it actually hasn't. The app occasionally shuts off for no apparent reason. Also when I stop tethering it doesn't always stop.! I frequently have to reboot the phone to stop the tether.
I'm wondering if others have encountered these errors and possibly found a way to cure them.?

The only thing I might suggest is to give ver. 3.3 beta 2 a try. I've been using it for almost two weeks and so far only had one problem once when it somehow switched its LAN network setting from 192.168.1.xx to 192.168.2.xxx. But once I caught it and switched it back I haven't had any more problems.

If anyone is interested, I haven't rooted my Awe (yet), and I've tethered using FoxFi on the host device (my wife's not-rooted Awe).

Thnx,3.3 seems to be an improvement.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, but from what I saw in the reviews about users getting busted I think I'll leave it alone.

FYI, think I figgered out the problem with my Wi-Fi constantly stopping on its own.. It seems that any app (on the host phone) that refreshes itself will grab the data signal and kick the Wi-Fi app to the side.
My weather channel app and news and weather widget were the culprits. Just had to push the refresh times out to the max or shut them down completely. I imagine sync could probably do it also.
