Help Wifi unstable

First off I want to apologize if this has been brought up but I couldn't find anything in the searches. Ever since I got this phone in November it has been one thing after another with wifi. I am on a 4G data with family so wifi is important, many times surfing the web, watching a video, or playing a game my wifi will just konk out on me, I go to my settings and it will say "wifi disabled due to slow speeds. I reconnect to my linksys wmp120nv2 router and run a speedtest.net test and am getting a stable 16mbps download and 1-1.5 upload. I started off on a belt in router that I could hardly connect to at all. Is there something wrong with my device? Or is this the big wifi fix that I have been hearing about in kitkat? I was just in a raid in clash of clans and got kicked out because of "network problems" and it happens all too often. Thank you very much and sorry about the lengthy post.

Oh, almost forgot, I'm running wpa2 on channel 11 (didn't know you could change the channel till this phone) and in some wifi heavy apartments.

Well you're certainly lucky, considering I've been having the same issue ever since I bought this phone and I've even tried differ end channels different encryption aoglorithms power cycled my router the phone flashed the firmware on the router to the most current firmware all my other wireless devices don't have an issue just this pos phone initially I was thinking that it might be firmware issue so I waited to see if Kitsap would fix it but nope so that leaves either the hardware on this Damn phone is jacked up or I need a firmware update which Samsung seems oblivious to the issue even though I read on boards all over the place of people having the same issue kinda makes me wish that I stuck with Apple

Install Wifi Analyzer and see what the wifi picture looks like. If there's signal on evewry channel, you're not going to get more than a few feet of usable range, and it's not the phone's fault - you can't put a 12" antenna into a 6" phone.

Every other device gets pretty good wifi, I stream Netflix and TV over my rou all the time. Stream Pandora on my iPhone 3gs every night to sleep. And not a problem. uploadfromtaptalk1397802704864.jpg

I don't have a solution, but I can share in the same problem. My N3 has intermittent connection no matter where I am or what wifi I am using. Sometimes I will stay connected without issue, other times at the same place I will lose connection every 3-4 minutes....again, I'll say that I really kick myself for getting rid on my Note 2.

i've installed wifi analyzer and various other wifi apps i have changed multiple channels, i live in the country so i am not picking up a crowded channel, i have multiple other devices kindle fire wife's i-phone and two laptops a wifi repeater and a google chromecast a belkin wemo switch and none of those devices have any issues, and yes even when the devices are off the network i still have issues. and its with other wifi networks too. so this is not an issue with the end user, it's issue with samsung being cheap putting shitty components in their phone, i've already gotta a shipping receipt to send the pos off to have them repair it. again coming from the apple market and having gone through 4 gens of the i-phone not once did i have an issue with my wifi on the phone.

You know, that's kinda crappy knowing that a company larger than apple and one trying to beat apple could put such a crappy wifi chip in their phones. Not gonna lie, if apple comes out with a phablet I'm gone... and all those jokes about making a stone brick and calling it an iPhone and people would still buy it, I have honestly seen that side of the world with a lot of people at work and their Samsung galaxy's. Sorry, not bashing, and a little off topic, but just stating a point.

Going on a month with my att note I have 8 different wifi I use in different areas and have never had one issue to date.

Would it be beneficial to switch to channel 8-9? Seems like lower traffic on there. But I know routers will run multiple channels in proximity to which ever I choose and like I said before, I know nothing about this. uploadfromtaptalk1398047528797.jpg

Neb, you're not going to get much range on wifi. Channel 8 or 9 would be your best bet, but that's like betting on a team that won twice as opposed to betting on a team that won once - in 50 years. Whatever you do, you probably can't get 10 feet from the router without having problems. Cellular is designed for areas where there are hundreds of devices running simultaneously, wifi isn't. Maybe a 5GHz router would make it a bit easier for you. Wifi Overview is an app that will actually tell you which is the best channel to use - on 2.4 or 5.

@Whpowell, if you set the repeater up wrong the phone isn't going to be able to use the wifi signal. Read Wired Bridge with two WAPs using the same SSID to get an understanding of how to use more than one access point in a network.

To add to what esn said, I've been using this phone since October, and I can connect to every open wifi signal, and every protected signal I know the password to, with no problem, except with one ROM, which I don't use any more because of that. The stock ROM works fine, X-Note works fine and Dynamic works fine (all on 4.3 - I disabled the att update app because I won't allow 4.4.2 near this phone).

I have a Sprint model Note 3 and I did have a issue with Wi-Fi at first. They did an update shortly after the phone came out and since then I have had NO problems.
So I would like to think that the problem is not always Samsung's fault. ....

Lateck,

Within your router's wife wireless setup for network setup, are you using "mixed" and if so, select N rather than mixed (if your router supports the setting).

Gonna have to limit wireless resources around here, and for some reason google.com is not working, therefor my search function is not working, but seems like everything else is a little snappy, definitely gonna give it a go for a day or 2 and see how she does...

I had the same issues at my home too... kicked off wifi because it test speeds are too low. but it seams to be fine.

when I upgraded to Kitkat.. I don't notice the issue as much.. if at all.
I had gotten used to it before.. so I don't pay attention to it.

I will there is a setting to.. LOCK in on wifi.. no matter the speed.
