Wifi users turn off Cel Standby to save battery

I'm using a tab on wifi only, no sim card is even inserted.

I checked what was using my battery
settings/about tablet/battery use
and was surprised to see Cel standby was using 30%!

The only way I could find to turn it off was to turn on Airplane mode
then turn on wifi.

After a full charge now cel standby is no longer using any battery Id expect to get longer battery life between charges.

I've had great battery life with this tablet, but I guess it makes sense to turn off the cell stuff while on wifi since we don't get phone calls on it anyway.

On Froyo, could you not simply turn off your data network mode by holding the power button as well?

Thanks for the reply.

Does that completely turn off the cel or just block 3g data?
The cel sim card icon is still displayed when data network mode is off.

You could try that after a full charge, then before next charge look at settings / about tablet / battery use and see if cel standby is using any power. If you try it let us know how it works out.

The only way I found to completely turn off the cel was to go to airplane mode then turn on wifi. Before that cel standby was using over 30% of battery even without a sim card installed!
