WiFi vs. Data usage

Probably a dumb question...When my Bionic has a WiFi connection, say at home or work, does that mean Data is off and all email checking services, etc are routed through WiFi?

I ask this so that I maximize battery savings and reduce data usage. I do have Tasker (and soon to have Smart Actions as well when ICS hits) so I can program changes if necessary.

I downloaded Juice Defender Ultimate and not only has my battery life about doubled but my data usage has been cut in half. The phone used to bounce back and forth between 3g/4g and Wifi. It also had to deal with a weak 3g/4g signal. Now when I am in Wifi range it automatically cuts off data and goes to Wifi. Likewise when I am out of Wifi range it automatically goes to data. This saves me a ton in data usage. Since I am around Wifi most of the time this really works for me.

+1 for Juice Defender! It helps my battery and data usage tremendously!

Juice defender didn't help my battery life :-/ but on Wifi I get about 1.5 days of battery life & on strong 4G/3G connection - 8 hours
