Help Wifi without mobile network (roaming problem)

Hi everyone. I have a quick question that I couldnt find with my google searchs..

I just got my HTC desire last week and now I am out of country.
I have the device mostly in airplane mode to avoid roaming. Now, I am in a friends house and we have wifi here and I want to use it. But as soon as I turn airplane mode OFF, I have mobile network too..

Can someone help me how to disable the mobile network completely just like in airplane mode but still be able to use wifi?

** For your information:
Unchecking the box of 'Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Network' does not do what I want. It is only for internet. I want whole gsm communication down. and use the device just for the internet, like a little computer..

Welcome to the forums.

Completely disabling mobile network is addressed by several apps available in Market, some free, some not.

ApnDroid, QuickSettings, etc.

I have tried both applications you mentioned above. I have disabled everything I could. But I my device is still reachable when I dial my own number from another phone.

Any other applications that might help?

My HTC Droid Incredible has a "mobile networks" app built in (along with BT, WiFi and Airplane mode apps). Doesn't your HTC phone?

If you are talking about this:
Settings --> Wireless & Networks --> Mobile Network - check box

It only disables/enables the internet use of mobile network, but the phone is still recieving calls.

I dont want to recieve calls. I just want WiFi.

When we took the Incredible to Germany this summer we put it in Airplane mode and then switched the Wifi back on through the toggle widget or in the Wifi settings menu.

It was fully functional on any Wifi network. We even made calls with Skype over Wifi.

I'd also suggest that the OP see if he can enable WiFi while in airplane mode. If so, it should do what he's looking for.

When I first tried this, the WiFi couldnt scan any wireless network.

But I will try it again today and tell you if it works as you say.

I apologize for that. I was about the leave my friends place and I was getting eager to find a solution before I leave. I am sorry.

It seems that the problem was with the wireless network at my friends place.
I tried with another wireless network today and it works just like I wanted..
