Wifi zone the cloud

I noticed there was a wifi zone called the cloud in JD at the weekend so i tried to access it and it would stick on obtaining an IP address, are only certain neetworks signed up to the cloud (im on orange), i thought i culd access wifi anywhere eg free wifi in bars etc
 
I've had probs with the cloud in the past, but I set up an account and password and since then I've never had any problems?

i didnt even know you could set up an account, i thought it was just a case of find a wifi zone and click to access it
 
I set up a account using a spare hotmail account I use for just these things, I just have to log in using email/password first and then I don't have any problems. I have to log in on browser first before anything else will work, like facebook or twitter updates

My understanding was it was free for o2 users and that all you did was put your mobile number in and it would connect via your account!?!?

I'll try this later today as we have a Cloud at the the Little Chef opposite work! :D

that would explain it then(my mate is on 02 and he accessed it no probs) as im on orange it wouldnt let me connect
 
Its definitely an o2 thing as far as I know!

I've connected to the one over the road today - registered wil my e-mail address via my phone and it works just fine!! :D

I get it free on T-Mobile (never entered my phone number) and I've used it free with my laptop using the same log in details

How long ago did you register, I wonder if its been restricted to O2 since then

Looking thru the Cloud site, I cant even find a free registration section, except for the following statement

Free Wi-Fi currently for O2 customers only

ok now i'm a little confused.

firstly it seems anyone can connect to the cloud (if you pay for a sub) but some of you who are on o2 say you can connect for free. how?

i'm on o2. what do i need to do? how do i register? do i need to register?

also, on the cloud site it says the use of the cloud is free on selected o2 tariffs. how do you know if you can get it? or are all o2 customers able to get it for free??

also, whilst we are talking about wifi zones, is the bt openzone free??
 
I am on vodafone, was on t-mobile, and can connect for free in any Wetherspoons I have been to around the UK. I have used my laptop and work laptop, my Desire, the previous LG KM900, and an SE C902. All I had to do was supply an email addy for an 'account', as many say above.

It may be that Cloud have other hotspots only available to o2.

You have to have the wifi bolt-on. They always said it was free to O2 customers, but a few of us here had never got on it.

I guess they must have sorted that now.
 
The Cloud hotspots are "free" to anybody in certain places, including Pret, Wetherspoon, and MacDonalds. The cost of the wi-fi is included in the price of your food and drinks.
 
I've used it in my local Wetherspoons. Once I searched for and set up the access point I can connect and use the connection for things like syncing etc. However going to the web browser brings up a screen form The Cloud which requires a login. It's pretty easy and quick to register and you can 'save password' once done.

It does look like every time you turn off Wifi or come back into range it forgets you and needs logging on again

No. It doesn't matter what network you have a contract with, or what device you use. The food outlets pay for the cost of the wi-fi.

I've used the Wi-Fi with my iPod Touch. That's obviously not with an O2 contract.

Other Cloud hotspots are different, because they're not paid for by the food outlets.
