xb35

Newbie
I just got my xperia play yesterday. My status shows "limited connectivity",security "WEP",signal strength "excellent" and link speed "54mbps". But, it sill won't get online???? Do i need a data plan for my wifi to work???? Thanks..... xb35

You probably do not need a dataplan to connect to WiFi. Generally errors like that come from some connection issue either because of a problem with the router or the phone.

General suggestions:
1)Delete the wireless settings and reenter them.
2)Enter your wireless setting manually instead of automatically setting them.
3)If possible, change to another security setting or turn off security temporarily to see if a bad password is the problem.
4)Reset your router
5)Research your router and see if other people have had this problem.

Your connected to the router but not to the internet. Your IP address probably did not register. Are you sure the wireless router is connected to the internet. Can you use another device to verify?

1. On my cell is shows my Mac and IP address.
2. When to at&t store today and they told me i need a data plan for the wifi to work. That its not a smartphone because i got the phone from bestbuy. Cell was working at&t when i was there. :)
3. I rebooted my dlink wireless and my wife's laptop works fine wireless.
4. Spend my weekend still trying to understand why this is not working..... :(
Thanks for ur help so far..... "jay"

Go to a friends house who has a linksys, netgear, or even a belkin router and see if it works. D-link routers have problems like this more often than not. They are bottom rung routers. So you may need to upgrade your router if it is working on a friends.

Try also removing the name of our router from the Wi-Fi settings section. Then download Wifistatic from the market. Reboot router then attempt to connect again.

Its working now!!!! My wife redid the dlink wireless setting over. Then rebooted it again. I also download Wifistatic from the market. Thanks, alot for your help everyone..... "jay"
