Root Wii

I have a triumph that is rooted and flashed with CM7. With CM7, I can use my phone as a wifi hot spot or use the USB tether. My question is, is there a way I can get internet on my Wii by using my phone or no. Thanks for your feedback.

If Wii's have wifi or a wifi adapter possibly. But I wouldn't recommend doing that and that would be considered tethering which you shouldn't even be asking about on this forum. It's against the Virgin Mobile TOS.

Btw, it would probably be easier to have all your questions answered if you asked them in one thread. I've seen about 6 or 7 new threads from you recently. Just saying.

i dont think the wii will connect to ad-hoc... thats what the triumph will put out right? or do we put out infrastructure? hmm...

Tethering isn't illegal. It is against the Terms of Service you agree to when you get VM service.

Either way we're not supposed to talk about it here, sorry.

EDIT: They changed this policy today, feel free to post about it now.

The native wifi hotspot should be infrastructure mode. Should work fine on the Wii, barring any latency issues with online gameplay of course.

Ive tried hooking up through usb from phone but the Wii doesnt recognize it. Is it suppose to?? Thanks for your feedback.

That's not going to work. You would need correct drivers, and the Wii isn't something you can really just find and install drivers for.

You need to setup your phone's hotspot (wifi) network. Then connect your wii to the network by entering the network credentials. I don't have a wii or know anything about it but I don't see why it wouldn't work if they both use infrastructure. Have you tried that yet?

No, haven't tried the wifi hot spot yet. I will try it later and report back. Thanks for the suggestion.

what did you try android1993? I can't see it not working with the native wifi hotspot unless it's still adhoc on the triumph

I probably wont be much help but i remember trying to do this with the 360 and couldnt get it to work but what i did do was download Barnucle or how ever u spell it and then use that to power my laptop net and then i hooked ethernet cable from xbox to laptop and it worked that way and was able to go on xbox live. I just cant recall the steps u do on laptop to make it work but it might work with wii too.

You mean download Barnacle on the labtop, or the phone. And I checked, the wii just has 2 usb slots, no ethernet, unless the ethernet goes into usb, I dont know, never use ethernet before. Thanks.

With the latest cm7 mod wifi works for the xbox, ps3, and Wii. but you have to have the custom room just go into network settings. the barnacle I use it just for my laptop when I forget my data cable because I can't get my phone to wireless teather for my laptop.

The device I have found that work from my phone are as follows
xBox 360
PS3
Wii
iPod Touch 2 and 4 gen
iPad 1 and 2
iPhone (both 3gs and 4gs)
android tabs
other android phones
blackberry
Windows phones
Zune touch
nook b/w
and all Kindels

for the three game systems. When watching netflix it was fine accept from time to time it would stop to adjust picture quality, but after 3 or tries it just keeps it low res. upload and download speeds sucked but when it came to online gameplay there was no log and ran just as smooth. even the voip for xbox was decent

Do I need barnacle for it to work on the wii then?? And how do I know if I have the latest CM7 update. I flashed my CM7 rom about a month ago. Thanks

No because barnacle requires you to set mtu (?) at another setting then normal on the PC... I don't know how you would do it on the Wii

well for me back before u could use CM7 as a hotspot i had to use barnacle and i belive had to change some settings in it but like i said, its been months since i did that and havent tried lately. I did though just test the cm7 hot spot and it works with my ps3 but cant try xbox because i have the old elite edition and no built in wifi for it but since it worked with ps3 i assume it would with xbox too. good luck
