Wildfire and 2.2 update??

I read on some tech site (can't remember which one) that Froyo is due on wildfire 2010 Q4; but I don't know if this is the date that users will get it or just the date that the networks will get it or what.

How do we get the above said update? When I check for any updates in "About phone" it says there are no updates available for this phone.

Can anyone help? Also, is the update dependent on the area as well???

This is my Firmware Info:

Firmware Version: 2.1 - update 1

Baseband Version - 13.45.55.24H_3.35.15.31

Kernel Version - 2.6.29-4266b2e1

Build Number - 1.14.720.2

Software Number - 1.14.720.2

Is this the latest update on Wildfire?

The whole point is that there isn't a 2.2 OS upgrade yet - there is a base firmware upgrade 1.25.405.1 for unbranded (aka SIM free) phones available, at least in Europe, could be that it's not yet released for AsiaPac...

Phoned HTC support a few days ago - they told me HTC Wildfire *won't* be getting the 2.2 update (at all) due to being 'not powerful enough'

I asked them about the online news articles, and the lady explained to me to only take news direct from the HTC website, which has never mentioned any wildfire updates.

Who to believe? I really want me some WiFi sharing...

Maybe not by standard specifications, but HTC Hero's which are definitely not getting 2.2 are running AOSP based froyo ROMS.

I'm pretty sure that soon there will be one for the wildfire soon.... Thing is though, no HTC sense, but then thats what causes it to run slower anyway.

Well, from previous experience in the field, I wouldn't believe any customer-facing support agent - they are typically last to know about anything, probably aren't even connected directly to HTC at all, just working for a rent-a-mouth call centre company and reading from a huge pile of scripts.

I contacted HTC the other day re 2.2 update for Wildfire. Here is an extract from their email in reply: "Their (sic) are currently no plans to release 2.2 on the wildfire."

I emailed HTC, they said they had no idea when the update is coming out if ever.
But I suspect it was just some Helpdesk person who probably knew less about froyo that I did.

All we can do it wait I suppose.

so there is no 2.2 update for wildfire? guess i have to rethink my decision to buy wildfire

the htc gratia is due very shortly...suggest you hold out for that! Comes with 2.2 as standard.

I am not expecting 2.2 on the wildfire now  It hacks me off no end because i am fast running out of storage space with apps.

Just received this back from HTC:

Thank you for you enquiry regarding the upgrade for 2.2

It is very likely that you shoud be receiving this, but as it has not yet been confirmed I am unable to advise you for now. Please keep yourself updated through our website, which should be announcing any updates.

My original question was "Will the android 2.2 update reach UK wildfire handsets?".

This and the following article make me think we are going to be seeing it soon:
Htc announces android 2.2 updates for legend and wildfire handsets - The Inquirer

I am going to debrand my phone tonight so I can get it ASAP!
