Wildfire S how do i update to Gingerbread 2.3.5?

Next i am going to try and load EQDKP Sense 3.5 by m1ndh4x8r, if its good enough for you then its probably 100X what i need.
JW
Quite a few people have had a problem with EQDKP Sense 3.5 by m1ndh4x8r in the sense the phone gets stuck in the booting part. So I suggest that if you want to use this rom, also download the script which CafeKampuchia has posted in this thread:
http://androidforums.com/wildfire-s-all-things-root/527644-overclock-my-phone.html. I think this might avoid some headaches ;)

Hey, i cant thank you enough for your help, just brilliant!!
Just click the thanks button and I'm happy!

Not bad for a noob...........pretty happy with todays effort!
I think you lost your noob status. Not a pro yet, but definitly not a noob anymore!

Is it the Deodexed ROM that i download or the Odex ROM?
Either odexed or deodexed is fine and you won't notice the difference. That ROM may not work well at first because it's overclocked from boot. My phone locked up over and over again until I installed a script that boots the phone at the stock 600 mhz. [edit: see Caro's post above.] It's a Sense 3.5 ROM and not much different than what you have now, but very polished and functional and good on memory.

I really recommend that you try CM7 to get a better taste of pure Android goodness. The link is 5C of the guide.

BTW, you can do nandroid backups of the various ROMs you try to go back to them as well.

HAVE FUN!

I would also recommend CM7. In fact CM7.1 is better than CM7.2 in my opinion as the 7.2. I kept on getting force closes on 7.2.
You can customize a lot more with it which is something I really love :D

loaded this rom unofficial-CM7-marvel-nigthly-02_26_2012

cant seem to get past the first screen, it says cyanogen (mod) 7, with an arrow going arond a circle and another android skating across the screen.

No buttons or anything seems to work?

Stumbled at the finish line by the looks of things..........:)

How long have you waited for? Because I know it takes a little while for it to load. And question,
Did you also download the gapps? The thing with cyanogen is that it does not support google apps. So you need to manually download the zip file and flash it along with Cyanogen

Yes, i got the gapps for CM7 and loaded them as well.

Doing a restore, i'll try again after that. Good practice if nothing else.

Restore was successful.

How long do you normally need to wait after it boots up, are you talking 30 seconds or 5 minutes?

JW

I would probably say about a minute or 2...
If it doesn't work, don't worry, maybe the version you downloaded is not really stable. There will be better versions out there. If you want I'll post you the link where I got mine from which is cyanogen 7.1 stable from Alqez I think

The first boot of a new ROM can take a few minutes. Generally speaking, if the boot animation is still tuning, the device is OK.

its OK

I changed ROMS like a pro and after the restore i dropped this ROM onto it and its booted fine

cm-7.1.0-nightly-20120226

I'm off to bed.

Huge thanks. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Hey just thought i'd report back and let you know that i have not looked back since rooting my phone, love it!!!

I ordered a class 10 SD card and proceeded to do the tweak to increase the internal storage, i now have 1.8GB of free internal storage space.

See tutorial here

[TUTORIAL]500MB-2GB Internal Storage - xda-developers

Very happy camper. :D:):D

JW
Congrats! Have you made a Link2SD partition on that card yet? That's the best way to make the Wildfire S's limited memory a non-issue and your class 10 card is perfect for it.

Yep, i made a 2GB partition but strangely it only shows up as 1.8GB, not that i am too fussed because prior to that i only had a measly 100MB........

It works a treat and i'd recommend that tweak above to everyone, best thing i've done.

Now off to download a bucket load of apps.

The class 10 SD card is great, very, very fast, glad i paid the extra.
