Help Wildfire unable to make or recieve calls or texts

Hi im trying to fix a friends htc wildfire it is on the 3 network inuk but the handset is unable to recieve or make calls texts etc the phone is also locked if i was to root this phone would it fix the said problem?

rooting will not unlock the phone, is anything working on phone network wise?

Oh ive had this problem and solved it
Basically your service centre number might be gone
[Open messages]>Menu>Settings>[Scroll down to "SMS settings"]

You should see service centre number
If you see a number like this 07782000800, then im not sure whats wrong
That number is unique to 3 customers, if you are on another network Google your provider's service centre number
If you dont then simply, type that number in, tap Ok and exit, come back to check if it hasnt been erased, if it has been erased then type it in then reboot your Wildfire
