Help Will e-bay android work with verizon WITHOUT DATA?

My son is about 2 months from getting his first cell. I would like to buy an android verizon phone off ebay, but don't want data. It would still work on wifi.

Is this something that VERIZON would know when I activate the cell? Will they force the data plan on me?

They will not let you activate without data plan, or you could just use the phone like an Itouch (0$ a month).

Verizon reps have no way to activate a Verizon smartphone without activating data. If the device is data capable, they have to put it on a data plan. When you give them the MEID or IMSI numbers to activate, they can tell what the phone is and the computer system will force the rep to add data.

Its not like AT&T or T-mobile where you can throw an already activated SIM into a smartphone without data.

I gave my fiance my AT&T HTC Touch Pro 2 and she's now happily using it on T-mobile without a data plan.
