Root Will I Be Able To Root and Everything...

... with the same methods used to root and flash ROMs that are for the SG2? From what I've heard, the phone on every carrier is going to be the same, it's just going to be named differently. So I believe that I will, but I just want to make sure.

While I think rooting will be possible I would say not about flashing same ROMS as other GS2. I think that would be a big mistake. If I am not mistaken this would likely result in a brick, because the other GS2's are GSM, which is a different radio and thus wouldn't work properly on the sprint version.

Same thing with the original GS, GSM to GSM would work a lot easier, but I believe developers still have to port things over for everything to work correctly.

I am almost positive though loading a custom ROM right now from one of the GSM GS2 will not be good, and likely require some kind of backup, probably an odin if that is what is still being used on Samsung phones.

Though I don't think it will take long for this phone to be rooting because of everything already out there for it, and I think custom ROMS will be almost as easy to do, so we should get plently. Cant wait for some CM7.

Wouldn't only the modem need to be changed?
I as well can't wait for some CM7 goodness.

i think you are right. We will not be able to flash gsm roms, same as Galaxy S1 roms didnt work with the first epic. Don't worry though, we will have plenty of epic touch specific roms in no time. I think the changes wont be just as simple as just a modem swap, as this epic has some differences compared to the euroversion, also cm7 will prob be a while because of difficulties with 4g cdma modems. Some good news however is that samsung ditched their stupid rfs system and are now using ext4 so that should help our devs a bit.

I wouldn't worry. THere will be a root method released within 48 hours and roms will start popping up shortly afterward. I expect to hvae my Epic 4g touch on stock for NO MORE than a week. Even with a stock rom + rooting, its going ot be the fastest phone in america, so tweaks may not even really be necessary for me. I just need options like wifi tethering and I generally just feel I have the right to use my $600 device to its fullest potential.

As everyone has stated:

1. This is a popular phone and we should see root methods and ROMs available rather quickly.
2. Sprint usually doesn't do much to block rooting, nor does Samsung
3. DON'T flash a GS II ROM, as they are GSM

Just a heads-up.... don't try rooting using the CF-Root method for the SGS2. It works but you lose the hardware button functionality due to it flashing a different kernel - we've already got one member over in the GS2 section who's found this out the hard way. :(

p.s. If anyone knows of a kernel dump from the Epic 4G Touch please PM me.

So no root yet then just to clarify.

Boo! lol

I guess the phone being out for two days is a bit much for it to be rooted already right...lol
